New Plex app cripples essential functionality

Thanks for releasing the new, radically changed app upon us, I’m sure there are improvements over the old one - I’m yet to find any though. I did find a bunch of things I could no longer to however:

Oftentimes I find music in my collection I no longer like. New app: sorry, you can’t delete music from a mobile device anymore. Don’t even think about using my cousin Plexamp to either. Best to find a bit of paper, write down the music you’d like to delete and then, when you’re on a PC, find the but if paper, then find and delete that song. It’s a brilliant new UX feature.

When browsing for a film to watch I’d like to filter my films to those released since 2010 (2010s OR 2020s). New app: You can only do 2010s or 2020s, not both like you could in old app. Boolean logic is so old school.

I’d like the limited real estate on my mobile device to only feature elements I use. New app: Sorry, here’s a couple of big tiles to millions of terribly-rated films and shows we got for peanuts we’re filling your screen up with

I’d like to easily access any of my libraries within two taps. New app: You’ll now need to click ‘libraries’, then the Plex icon (which isn’t a hamburger anymore but does the same thing), then the library you want. Yay it’s only 50% more effort than old app every time you open new app.

Can I have my old app back please? New app: nope, nope, nope, it’s retarded

Sorry to be mean, I’m sure I’ll get used to the changes eventually, and looking forward to further improvements.

Already been announced that the option is returning. And there’ll be a dedicated app for administering servers being released further down the line.

You need to check your settings. New app shows nothing different to the old app on my device.

Or you could just long-press the library button at the bottom and select the library you want.

Thanks Krazeh, that hard press on Library tile is great, if not intuitively clear. Are there other elements in the app containing Easter eggs like this?

Any idea where I can find the announcement that music is coming back into the Plex app? Or that deleting music via Plexamp is coming?

I checked my settings and couldn’t find a way to hide the big ‘on demand’ and ‘live tv’ tiles from the bottom of the screen anywhere. Certainly, they weren’t visible there in the old app.

Music is not coming back to the Plex app, you need to use PlexAmp for music. I did a search on the forum and deleting is a common request going back 4 years or so…so I doubt it is coming soon.

Thanks @TheLivingBubba. Fingers crossed deletion functionally is released across Plex and Plexamp in tandem. In the meantime one-starring music to mark for deletion later is a clunky, but workable, workaround..

I do not want to use a freaking 2nd or 3rd app for ANYTHING. How thick is your team to ignore the outcry from your users who have spent a great deal of time settings things up for elderly parents and kids that worked nearly flawlessly all this time, a central location where they can look at a movie or a photo or play a song if they so choose. It was a wonderful thing to have all our media libraries consolidated and your shortsighted team decided against all beta feedback and current user rage to double down on this stupid stupid choice. Listen to your users and fix this sloppy, user-hostile release.

Let’s please curb it down a notch.
I understand you don’t like the new approach (it seems you’re on a mission to post that in every related thread you can find; no matter how lightly related they are).

That’s no excuse to lash out towards other users who are trying to help (by addressing/answering questions raised in this thread).

Seriously? You think I’m posting in every forum for my health? I’m lashing out at developers, not at users, and unless one of these super helpful developers is willing to sit down with the elderly users who are flummoxed by this update I will make sure my frustrations are heard, however lightly you frame them. When you love someone in hospice who just wants to watch the old westerns they loved as a kid and suddenly everything is upside down, get back to me.

I don’t work for Plex.
