Is there any downmixing in this new app? I think I’m hearing all 5.1 channels through my 2.0 headphones.
Yes, it does.
It is dependent on your speaker configuration in the Windows ‘sound’ control panel.
If you set stereo, it’ll downmix.
If you set surround, it won’t.
That’s disappointing because I liked the downmixing included in Plex Media Player.
I don’t understand. It is downmixing when it has to.
I use fake 7.1 for games and the like but then preferred 2.0 in Plex Media Player. When I could set it in PMP, I didn’t need to change it in Windows.
What do you mean by “fake”?
Does that mean you don’t actually have a 7.1 system?
Some gaming headphones do the 7.1 surround emulation thingy, e.g. https://www.logitechg.com/en-us/products/gaming-audio/g933-7-1-surround-sound-gaming-headset.html#981-000585
It does sound good in games and helps with positioning. But it sounds horrible for music and video (unless downmixed).
I think the problem here is that the OP has it set to 7.1 in windows so the games he plays do the correct thing. But in this case, the new player is not downmixing because it sees a multichannel output source configured.
