So the new PLEX app is out for Windows. Here’s what I’ve found.
Remote no longer works (Alt+Enter) does not take it Fullscreen.
No access to advanced audio settings, (No Atmos, AC3 bit-streaming, etc.)
4k Playback stutters on a fast PC and is unusable.
Touch support on the Surface is TERRIBLE.
I still use many PCs connected to many devices. I also use a Linux server, Xbox One, PS4, FireTV, and nVidia Shield. Non has ever been as good as the Windows 10 PC connected to my main display. This is now ■■■■!
I have downloaded and stored the latest PMP app and plan to keep it until the issues with the new PLEX app are sorted. (I hope they are - the Windows store app was left to rot.) I don’t need a TV-Mode as full-screen is always fine (now that is broken and does not conform to Windows standard).
Please guys, more beta-testing and user-feedback before any radical changes! Ok?
Please list your concerns in this thread so we can get these addressed as soon as possible.
As for the rest - I’m in the same boat. Won’t pass audio stream to AV/receiver and I can’t set it up, stutters every time the HDD reads and I can’t increase the buffer size.
The new app for desktop is not meant ot replace PMP for HTPC users. Plex has basically stated that they’re getting out of the HTPC business.
Correct and this isn’t likely to change.
F11 does this.
Plex may be reconsidering passthrough audio.
On PMP do you use buffer settings to address stuttering or some other settings? I believe the intent is to make sure that 4k playback works where it worked previously (but don’t quote me on that).
Understood. However, stupid. NONE of the other devices work as well as the PC - not even close!
By the remote not working, mean that it is the device that sends the Alt-Enter to the app. This is WINDOWS standard and NEEDS to work to be a compatible Windows app.
No passthrough - no user. It is that simple. If they want to be a “brain-dead” app aimed at phones, I have no use for it any more. Playback is currently terrible compared to the same settings on the PMP. It is that simple.
Actually, this new version has the same stupid bug as PMP that prevents it from leaving full screen once activated. I can’t believe we get a new player and it has the same bug as the old one.
[BUG] Listing “All Movies By Title” displays an inaccurate total number of files. (It adds Collection folders in the total and includes the folders on display alongside individual movie files. (Using other filter options such as “Unplayed Movies By Title” displays the correct total and excludes Collection folders ).
Also, was the ransomware an added benefit? Seriously broken new app providing a generally hostile environment for loyal long term users guys. This is bad enough to force me to seek something safer and more reliable.
Feedback on new app. No experience is better or more versatile than a full PC HTPC and is many people’s use case for plex, so I hope it isn’t being abandoned. Audio passthrough is a must! Also, the full screen should have a UI onscreen button like it used to. A lot of people’s preferred input devices - remotes or small form factor keyboards don’t natively have F11 button. Also the Web based sign in is a pain. Often times a browser window pops up in a separate window from the app. Local authentication through the app to the server would be nice. Thanks!
I agree, the only reason I use Plex is full HTPC experience with basic keyboard or remote commands for navigation. Move away from that and I will have no reason to continue using an app which requires the use of a mouse.
I would love to but even PMP TV view is unstable, one day everything works fine the next day it fails to tune channels, I reboot and the Live TV menu item disappears from the toolbar list, go figure… so I have no choice and switch away from the TV view in the PMP.
