Server Version#: 1.16.4.1469
Player Version#: 1.0.0.792-d4adb056
I have been playing around with the new Plex for Windows app. I’m fine with the interface and functionality but almost everything I try playing from my library doesn’t play smoothly. I’m playing mostly 1080p MKV files. I’m forced to switch back to Plex Media Player which plays everything great. I am playing everything directly from my HTPC which has 16gb of RAM, core i7 3700, Samsung EVO SSD boot drive, and 18TB of direct SATA storage on the latest Windows 10 build.
What’s going on here? Does anyone else have this issue?
I’m also experiencing stutter every second, it happens exactly whenever the drive reads the data. In the old player the solution was simply increase the buffer, but there is no such option in the new app.
Conclusion - uninstall new app, install the old one, then never ever download any updates for the player or server, in case they completely cut it off and make it non-functional.
Yup. Tried this app and can also confirm playback stutter.
But for me, the app is completely useless and is does not do Audio Passthrough, which so far, I have not heard any mention that they have any plans to implement.
I’m hoping that these early bugs and lack of certain features for power users will be highly improved upon soon since this app is in it’s infancy.
It’s the most dedicated, longstanding, and loyal users like us that Plex can’t leave behind, otherwise they’re going to fail and something new and better will replace them.
The constant shuttering, the auto windowed mode, and the fact the full screen button during playback switches commanding the player and video makes this player unless. It’s crazy, you open the player you have the window bar at top showing a maximize button that does nothing. You play a video and it plays in the window until you hit full screen, that’s when shuttering begins. You click to exit full screen mode and it windows the player with the video remaining in full mode within the player. How can that get past testing? I really hope this gets remedied quick or this is a real shame.
I guess ‘Internal Logistics’ reveals this is ‘Good Enough’
or
I’ll rush right out and buy a s****ty game console in an attempt to fix it and on both counts
THEY’D BE WRONG!
Yes. Definitely an issue. My maxed out HP laptop stutters like crazy on standard average bitrate h.264 AAC movies. Plays fine in Chrome. PLEX for Windows definitely needs some re-engineering. BUT who to tell?
Same issue here. Playback stutters beyond watchability. Meanwhile playback with PMP or Plex Web is great, on the same machine. Has to be an issue with the new windows app.
A’ight… fair enough, but my time is limited ATM.
I can put an entire episode on my G Drive - 480p, so not a big deal. I’ll let you know when I have gotten it there.
PMP got an update today - playback is greatly improved, but not had time to test more fully - like the subs… I will do so and let you know how that goes.
Other than ‘Ambushing’ you guys with my screenshots (I am fully loaded for Grizzly) I had sorta thought it might be due to the ‘Scaling Issue’.
I will, however do what I have time for to help identify the issue - 'cause I sure can’t use it like that.
Since you don’t reply to unsolicited personal messages - and I’m not going to link a file on my G-Drive in this thread - you send me a personal message and I’ll tell you where ‘the stuff’ is, Man…
Included will be the file - like every other file - with the subs muxed in - and I also demuxed the srt file and included that as well.
Note:
The Incredible Hulk Subs are present with the internal sub file - AND - the external.
Every other device/app I own plays them back perfectly.
Note 2: The PMP update I got today did nothing for The Incredible Hulk subs as they are still huge and angry, but playback has improved greatly.
Will this fix the weird unnatural playback issues? Everything I play looks unnatural like it’s ever-so-slightly choppy and sped up and slowed at moments. I’m playing directly from a very powerful PC too.
For example, I’m playing a Bill Maher episode on the new Plex for Windows and it just looks unnatural and not entirely smooth in playback. This same episode plays much better and normal through Plex Media Player. Here’s an image with the file info: https://i.imgur.com/NQGoJju.png
This entire thread is dealing with issues like mine.
Exactly. I haven’t found a file yet where playback is smooth in the new windows app. No matter what the framerate or codec or resolution or whatever is. My computer is pretty old, though, but that should not matter since PMP and Plex Web can play the same videos on the same computer without any issues.
