New Plex Media Server movie scanner and agent preview

To be clear, existing Movie libraries that use the Plex Movie or TheMoviedb agent will be able to upgrade to the new Plex Movie New agent (name to be confirmed) once it is officially released.

During this preview period there is the possibility that you may need to recreate your “test” libraries that use this agent as we work out any issues etc.

I’m not sure if this is a matching “issue” at all, if it’s deliberate behavior, or if it’s a localization change in disguise. I just noticed that it’s different.

Current Plex Movie scanner on the left, Preview scanner on the right.

That’s a superscript ³ in the old one.

It was prettier, but less practical. It’s a lot harder to type the superscript when searching, and a search for “Alien 3” didn’t find the old library item. So the new “boring” version is “better”.

Name and movie description are now localized

The superscript 3³ was closer to the ‘n’ before; now it’s further away. Isn’t that less localized?

There is a ‘newer’ version of PMS…
Plex Media Server 1.19.5.3021 is now available in the beta update channel
I am assuming that this doesn’t include the new agent, as there is nothing in the release notes about it.

There are some fixes in there that I would like to ‘upgrade’ to (intros stuff and NVidia Shield stuff)… so I was wondering if you have plans to do another build of this preview version to include those fixes as well. If nothing else it would be good to make sure that the new agent doesn’t break anything else in the new version when it comes to merging the two.

Thanks again for your time/help

Hey everyone! Sorry about the long wait since the last update but we’ve been hard at work tweaking things behind the scenes for better localis(z)ation and getting this right is a complicated task (we still have much work to do on this front).

New Language Support

With the new 1.19.6 preview build (find links in the first post) we’ve expanded the language support to include a few regional variations which I know is a huge bugbear for many. Along with existing languages we now have additional options for English (Canada), English (United Kingdom), French (Canada), Portuguese (Brazil), Chinese (Hong Kong), Chinese (Taiwan) and Spanish (Mexico).

Setting these languages is currently only supported in the bundle Web application (i.e. http://127.0.0.1:32400/web) and using the hosted application will result in most of the options being blank for now.

It is also recommended that you remove any previous libraries you created with these preview builds and scan them in fresh. If you don’t have the time now to do that then at least just make sure edit the library and set the language again and save it so it updates with the correct language code - although the consistency of the data cannot be guaranteed then.

Movie titles, summaries as well as taglines should now be translated if we have a translation for it in your chosen language. We’re still working on bringing translations for genres.

We’re also building things out so that adding new languages to this list is as painless as possible - if you think there is a language option missing from our list please let us know.

Collections

Collections are finally back with a few upgrades. You can now set a minimum collection size for automatic collections so you don’t have to deal with those 1 item collections clogging your library any more (although if you still want that just set this value to 1 or “Disabled” if you don’t want any at all). If you want a custom value here it’s highly recommended that you set this when creating the library as we won’t remove collections that have already been created.

Along with this we now also provider posters and background art for newly created collections.

Small tweaks and additions

Reviews should now be pulled in for clients which support them.

Added the ability to allow matching Adult content again (Edit library → Advanced → Include adult content).

There were a few fixes to extras where the would not play correctly on some platforms.

Some issues handling local extras for multiple versions of media was fixed.

A post was split to a new topic: Support for Arch Linux and TV Naming issues

well that answered my question about having a new version! lol

All I can say is wow… blown away, it is fast, and the collection system (at first glance) see to be working well. I do like the collection artwork as well, they actually look like collections now, which is great.

Will let you know if I find any issues, but nothing I can see at the moment

thank you!

UPDATE 1: the only problem I have found so far is that for some reason the film Divergent hasn’t been found or added to the collection. I have had a quick flick through my other collections, and that seems to be the only one. It is detected correctly using the ‘normal’ agent, just not the preview one. At the moment I can’t see any errors anywhere… if there is anything you want me to have a look at, please let me know.
The files have all the correct permissions, and as I said it is detected in the normal agent version.
Disclaimer: I am not sure if it was not detected with the previous preview version, I only noticed it because of the collection, and it is showing “movies in Divergent collection…” as all three movies, but only two items above it.

UPDATE 2: I found another ‘victim’, and that is Spiderman: Homecoming… again, the same symptoms, detected in the original agent and not showing in the collection, or in the library.

UPDATE 3: not seeing any sort of pattern here, but weirdly Creed is in the new (test) library, but NOT in the old library  very odd

… it’s mazing when you don’t realise how many movies are actually missing from your library! lol … it seems there are several that were never picked up in the original agent, that ARE being picked up in the preview one… but also there are some that aren’t being picked up in the preview one. Let me know if there is anything that you would like me to check.

Just so that you know, all of my library movies are one movie per folder, naming convention following plex recommendations “Movie (year)/Movie (year).mkv”

UPDATE 4: another anomaly… Kong: Skull Island is being added to the Godzilla collection for some reason. (again, Disclaimer: I STILL haven’t got round to watching it so… maybe a spoiler? :stuck_out_tongue: )

@Adict and @AgentX : If you have files that arent’ being matched/picked up then please provide the filename/path of these so we can see why.

Just running a scan with the new version.
One observation… it appears the collection metadata does not yet respect the language set to the library but goes for the original language of the collection (e.g. Japanese for some Studio Ghibli stuff, English for most Hollywood franchises etc.).

There’s still a handful of regular titles which get their English names (despite library, files and original title actually being in a different language; e.g. “Manitou’s Shoe” for “Der Schuh des Manitu” which is a German comedy)

Edit: Will you get a notification if I manually fix some movies that didn’t get picked up despite being part of an automatically identified collection?
(I’ll keep it running and it seems the agent is still dealing with those collections… just wanted to be clear how to report those later

The perfect time to go crazy and validate BOTH libraries! Satisfying obsessiveness, plus it helps find any potential issues with the scanner!

I see this too. It gets matched as “Kong: Skull Island” correctly It’s not in the TMDB Godzilla collection. It gets the “Godzilla” tag (so do the Godzilla movies, correctly).

Kong Skull Island (2017).mp4, all matched info looks good.

Movies that ARE picked up in the ‘old’ agent but ARE NOT picked up in ‘preview’ agent

  • /PMS-Media/Movies/Amazing Spider-Man 3, The (2017)/The Amazing Spider-Man 3 (2017).mkv
  • /PMS-Media/Movies/Divergent (2014)/Divergent (2014).mkv

Movies that ARE NOT picked up in the ‘old’ agent but ARE picked up in ‘preview’ agent

  • /PMS-Media/Movies/Creed (2015)/Creed (2015).mkv

If you need any other information, please let me know

so does this mean that there is going to be a classic movie with both Kong and Godzilla in it at some point?.. hmmmm

haha… don’t get me started on being obsessive

Something not related to matching.

If I try to edit library settings from the sidebar, Triple-dot -> Manage Library -> Edit ..., the Advanced option is greyed out and not available.

If I edit the library from Settings -> Manage/Libraries, Advanced is available.

Found another thing… it appears that the “minimum collection size” is not being honoured… I have it at the default of 2, and there is a colleciton of 1, which is Spider-Man:Far From Home

  • /PMS-Media/Movies/Spider-Man Far from Home (2019)/Spider-Man Far from Home - 2019 - WEBDL-1080p-Radarr.mkv

There is another collection of “The Amazing Spider-Man”, which has 2 movies in it… so I am not sure if it is mixing the two together?

Also :star_struck: for adding Certification Country as an option. TYVM.

Thanks @Adict and @Volts - I’m seeing the same issue with Kong Skull Island. I’ll follow up with that team on next week to see how that happened.

This should work fine, but I haven’t tested it myself. You can try and see what happens and let me know if it doesn’t work.

Not sure how this would happen - could you provide your logs zip file to me so I can investigate.
