New Plex Media Server movie scanner and agent preview

I don’t know what the “right” answer for this one is, or if it’s localization churn because they couldn’t figure out what to call the movie. I think Brainstorm is wrong, though it may be a source data issue.

File: Cypher (2002).mp4
Old agent title -> Cypher
Preview agent title -> Brainstorm

“Brainstorm” is listed on The Movie Database as “International English Title” for Finland. I take it your library is not set to Finish – but probably the Finish title is somehow also tagged as English language

Edit: link points to the “alternative titles” of the movie

District 9 → District Nine
Another example of a numeral turned into a word, and being worse.

Edge of Tomorrow → Live Die Repeat
“Edge of Tomorrow” is more correct.

Guardians of the Galaxy → G.O.T.G.
The sequel stayed OK.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey → The Hobbit: Part 1
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug → The Hobbit: Part 2
The Battle of Five Armies is good.

Iron Man gets the variety treatment, and “Ironman” is just weird.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum → John Wick: Chapter 3
I’m torn about this one. I think the title should include “Parabellum”, but it’s inconsistent and ugly. So if you’re mapping fixes by hand, leave this out. :slight_smile:

Mission: Impossible III → M:i:III
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol → MiGP
(The other MI movies fared better.)

Life of Brian → Monty Python’s Life of Brian
(No objection to this one, I just noticed.)

Monty Python and the Holy Grail → Mønti Pythøn ik den Høli Gräilen
Neighbors → Bad Neighbors
Noelle → Nicole
Pacific Rim: Uprising → Pacific Rim: Maelstrom
Wristcutters: A Love Story → Pizzeria Kamikaze
PCU → Politically Correct University
The Post → Untitled Steven Spielberg Pentagon Papers (lol)
Those are all worse names than before.

Pausing for lunch.

You absolutely made me check, since I’m seeing a pattern of less-good International titles being used.

Plex Language is “English”.

And this is a brand-new library created to test this new version of the preview. Language is “English (United States)”, Certification Country is “English”.

Before I installed this, I deleted the old preview library/cleaned bundles/optimized database.

In that case it simply doesn’t add up :wink:
From The Movie Database:

Details (extract; language = en-US)

{
  "id": 10133,
  "imdb_id": "tt0284978",
  "original_language": "en",
  "original_title": "Cypher",
  "title": "Cypher",
}

Alternative Titles

{
  "id": 10133,
  "titles": [
    {
      "iso_3166_1": "CN",
      "title": "反智特工",
      "type": ""
    },
    {
      "iso_3166_1": "FI",
      "title": "Brainstorm",
      "type": "International (English title)"
    }
  ]
}```

I’m seeing the issue crop up on my end too now, it was working when I shipped this build as I ran a library scan specifically to test for this however when I refreshed Quantum of Solace on my end now it changed to QoS.

This should hopefully be an easy fix on Monday and you can just run a refresh metadata to fix the titles.

The Pursuit of Happyness -> The Pursuit of Happiness
Resident Evil: Retribution -> Re5ident Evil: Retribution
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter -> Resident Evil: Rising
Short Term 12 -> Short Term Twelve (this is worse)

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) -> Spiderman
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2012) -> Spiderman (wtf? match is right, just the title)

Spy Game (2001) -> Spygame

Star Trek (2009) -> Star Trek: The Future Begins

image
Just super inconsistent. ‘Episode’ or not, Roman or Decimal numbers.

State and Main (2000) -> State & Main

Taken 3 (2014)-> Tak3n

Thor (2011) -> The Mighty Thor
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017) -> Valerian
Logan (2017) -> Wolverine 3

Nice, do these all seem like they’re part of the same issue? Is there anything else that’s worth looking for right now, or would it be a waste of time until Monday?

I agree that it’s fast, I really like the collections and collection art, and it does an excellent job at matching.

Yes they’re all the same issue. I wouldn’t bother reporting theses until it’s fixed on our end.

Thanks! The matching itself is fast and good. I went through my library mostly to appease myself. :slight_smile:

Did you notice this question I had?

There’s a collection “Blood and Ice Cream”, that I don’t understand. Made up of “Shaun of the Dead”, “Hot Fuzz”, and “The World’s End”.

I don’t think it’s really a collection per TMDB rules. I don’t see it on TMDB.

And per natural law, I think it would be “Three Flavours Cornetto” anyway.

Are these movies using the mp4/m4v container?
If they do, take a look into their ‘Album’ meta tag. It might contain “Blood and Ice Cream”.

Yes to mp4, but only boring tags. Nothing so exciting as an “Album” tag.

“Blood and Ice Cream” is something that people call those movies, and that collection was definitely created by the agent preview. So it might be legit, and I’m mostly complaining because “Three Flavours Cornetto” is clever and funny, but “Blood and Ice Cream” isn’t as good. But I don’t see it on TMDB so I’m confused.

It might just be more of the localization-wait-for-Monday’s-fix issue. Curious to see.

Looks like this is a topic of repeated bickering at TMDB:

:slight_smile:

Not sure if this is part of the matching issues, but another one that seems to be a bit wonky:
/PMS-Media/Movies/Terminator 2 Judgment Day (1991)/Terminator 2 Judgment Day - 1991 - Remux-1080p-FGT.mkv
This is being detected as:
Swordsmen (2011)
not even the right year on that one
With a US Library language it is matching to:
Dragon (2011)
which has the same cover as Swordsmen, detected as UK library

The Film Youth is matching to a movie called “The Early Years”… which appears to be the correct movie, but maybe a strangely “localized” version?

  • /PMS-Media/Movies/Youth (2015)/Youth (2015).mkv

With US Library language it still matched to “The Early Years”

Not sure if it helps, but the language of the library is set to United Kingdom and the certification is set to UK too.
I may try and remove the library and re-scan again using the US lanuage and UK certification to see if that makes a difference.

The incorrect matches, if I “fix match” it picks it up correctly straight away.

With the “Taking of Pelham 1 2 3” movie that is unmatch, as soon as I “match” it, it finds it without an issue.

  • /PMS-Media/Movies/Logan (2017)/Logan (2017).mkv
    Matching to Wolverine 3 instead of Logan (US Library Language and UK certifications)

Terminator 2 Judgment Day (1991)/Terminator 2 Judgment Day - 1991 - Remux-1080p-FGT.mkv matches immediately and correctly for me. :man_shrugging: Does it fix it for you if you name it right?

The Early Years / Youth - looks like they’re both names for the same thing, maybe that’s what Zoidberg said they’re already working on.

Wolverine 3 / Logan - same.

Agreed about The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 (2009)/The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 - 2009 [Bluray-720p] [tt1111422].mkv not matching. Also agreed that Match ... works immediately. But naming it correctly works immediately in the first place. :slight_smile:

when you say “naming it correctly”… how are you naming it different?

UPDATE: after some messing with the naming… turns out it was the spaces between 1 2 3 > 123 works ok.

I love this new scanner I was wondering if there is going to be a way to automatically add your local posters for collections (you could make a folder for each collection and put in each collection folder the folders containing all the movies from that collection and a collection.jpg poster for example).
I also like that you can now hide collections that only have 1 movie but could it be possible to also hide collections you made with only one movie inside? I sometimes make a collection for a movie so that I can be refer to that movie in my music library but I don’t want to see that collection with 1 movie in my collection overview.

I teted the new scanner on my french movie library and there is a little problem with the collections :confused:. Thisshould be a collection:

but with the new movie scanner it has been split in 2 separate collections:

Would love to see this too.

You can edit a collection and change the poster…

Yeah of course.
Maybe I’m misinterpreting what @alexandre was asking for. Personally I was thinking along the lines of in the way a local poster.jpg is picked up for the movie, then something like collection.jpg
