New Plex Media Server TV show/series scanner and agent preview

Sure that’s an option but was looking for something faster as I can just script a rename rather than having to process a merge. I also have mp4 containers so would need to handle that also if I really decide I want to go down this path.

Nothing is easier than simply renaming two files. Merging works only if both parts are identical in codec, etc. I tried it several times and many times it ended in small glitches at the time where both parts were merged.

BTW, Plex supports split file, so why bother with merging. It’s all about proper fle naming.

Simple – because TVDB has one naming order and TMDB has another. Which is why I asked the question if it works with the new agent. I’m considering ditching TVDB and moving to TMDB which may require me to now use split files as I had initially named all my files per TVDB. Star Wars Rebels (2014) Spark of Rebellion is one example.

ppl, this one has gone on for long enough.
Please stay on topic.

TVDB does have support for season titles and summaries on their website but they are not available in their API. They will become available in the future after we upgrade to v4 of their API.

thanks @adriana. The more I think about this the more TMDB is becoming a better option as a better ordering option. Will require a bit of upfront work to reorganise somethings but ultimately will be better in the long term.

Anyhow, plan on doing another test today with TMDB ordering so will confirm if the issues I reported above are resolved with that.

additional feedback on build → plexmediaserver-1.22.0.4077-7f4136603.x86_64.rpm:

I used the new library option for this test, so delete existing show library, clean bundles etc… and create a new TV library – TMDB used for rankings & ordering

  • Shows I reported as not auto matching or getting the wrong match are still happening (andromeda, 3% etc… see my previous notes on this thread regarding them)
  • For some reason the simpsons is not picking up local assets (posters). Its the only show I can see with this problem. Could be related to show size being 32 seasons long.
  • Season titles and summaries was downloaded correctly which confirms this only works for TMDB ordering and not for TVDB ordering.
  • Various shows are showing the full show length rather than episode length on the summary panel – I had mentioned this previously regarding the haunting mini series but also happens for Des (2hr 23 min).

Some shows have significant episode naming differences between TVDB & TMDB which I will need to sort out before I can check them fully (firefly, battlestar galactica, pokemom, doctor who etc…).

One more question

Using Desperate Housewives as a reference example. On TMDB for S02 they finish at E23 as that a double episode but on TVDB they have it split E23 & E24.

If your using TMDB episode ordering and you have a Desperate Housewives S02E24 rip will that just show blank with no information in plex or should it do a fail back and pull the information from TVDB ?

Reason I ask is that for ratings which are set to come from TMDB will fail back to TVDB if none exist so want to understand what is the desired plan for cases regarding metadata when none exists?

It shouldn’t have anything to do with how many seasons there are. If you refresh the show does it work then? If you could send me some logs after a refresh that would help.

No, it won’t match that episode if it doesn’t exist in the chosen ordering (it’ll still scan in but won’t have metadata).

Refresh did not help. I’ve restored my server now so will get the logs the next time I run a test.

The scanner is bad,My new library lacks a lot of tv show than the old library.

Could you provide some examples of missing things and how those files are named?

old library is normal

this is new test library ,Can’t scan this TV series

old library

Thanks, even though it’s not following the naming guidelines I still like to make sure things can match. I’ll see what’s going wrong with those as if they match with the old agent it should probably work on the new one too.

Excellent, I found the bug! Will get this out in the next build.

Thank you for the report.

This version seems to have stopped a particular view - episodes by date added - from working.
I’ve tried it on three different clients - same result.
Same clients display ok from another server.

Thanks for the report. What exactly do you mean by it not working? Does it give an error or is it not sorting as you would expect? It seems to be working correctly for me at least so some extra details would be appreciated.
