New Plex Movie agent gets wrong title if it's non-English(latin) movie

Server Version#: 1.25.1.5286
Player Version#: 4.71.0

New Plex Movie agent seems that it gets wrong title when movie is non-English movie. Sometimes it doesn’t get right title and displays filename instead of movie name. Sometimes it gets romanization title(one of alternative titles) and it’s useless.

If I choose Plex Movie(Legacy) or The Movie Database agent, there’s no problem.

It’s also happening to me. I can’t use new Plex Movie agent. It’s faster than Plex Movie(Legacy), though.

These titles are romanization title. It’s hard to read and understand. Useless.

Edit the movie and go to advanced, then enable “Use original title” and refresh the metadata.

You can enable this for the entire library too but you may not want that.

Of course not. If I use this option, then I can’t use Korean title for English or other language movies. I hope Plex team fix this problem soon.

Exactly, this is why the option exists at the item level too.

Please fix this problem!

Please provide more information.

What language is your library set to? Please give me some examples of movies you’re having a problem with too so I have something to reference.

Exactly same thing happened like @Kenneth.Lee. I set Korean for my library and after I upgraded agent to new Plex Movie, lots of Korean movie’s title messed up. I didn’t want to edit them manually so I had to revoke agent to Plex Agent(Legacy).

Today, I updated PMS(Synology) to 1.25.2.5319 with hopes but still same.

Do the titles show correctly on IMDb for these movies?

I see the one example provided earlier shows like that on IMDb: Ode to My Father (2014) - Release info - IMDb

Looking at IMDb’s own guidelines it looks like this is just wrong on their site and somebody will have to correct these.

As a work-around you can just enable “Use original title” on the incorrect items as it looks like we pull that data from TMDB which may have the correct titles.

Oops! Do you get movie’s title from IMDB? not TMDB? I never thought new agent gets title from IMDB. I thought agent gets most of the information from TMDB. When I checked it, it came from TMDB, description, cast, etc.

I’m not sure but I think IMDB doesn’t offer Korean information(title or etc) for Korean movie. Plex Agent should get titles from TMDB. Plex Movie(Legacy) agent gets title from TMDB.

When I need to edit some movie’s information, I always do that at TMDB.

Yes, the majority of titles will come from IMDb (unless the item doesn’t exist on IMDb and only on TMDB).

It looks like this issue has been brought up a few times on the IMDB forum: korean title | IMDb Community Forums

But Plex Movie(Legacy) agent gets correct title from TMDB. Did you change the kind of policy? If new Plex Movie agent gets title from TMDB like legacy agent, it’s gonna be perfect. It’s fast and has more useful functions like extra videos.

I think 99% of the Korean movies have no Korean title in IMDB. I don’t even know how to see movie’s information in Korean language. There’s no language options in their page. I think no Korean people uses IMDB these days.

I hope you change the way to get movie’s title, at least Korean movie’s title.

The new agent is not the same as the old one.

I’ll talk about this specific issue with the team and see if we can come up with a solution for the Korean titles. In the meantime, as I said earlier, enabling the “Use original title” option on the affected movies should fix your issue for now.

Have discussed this internally and looks like this may just be a bug in the TMDB api as it’s returning a blank title for the Korean translation field. We’ll follow up with TMDB to see what’s going on here.

Oh, I talked to TMDB guy couple days ago and he said it’s their rule. If the translated title is identical to original title, then it should be empty. And in that case, API should use original title for translated title.

This is TMDB’s rule page

Thanks we came to same conclusion as that’s what’s going on. It’s a bit confusing as their translation list on their website returns the Korean title but the api doesn’t. We’re looking at ways to improve our logic (as we have a few extra layers dealing with multiple sources).
