New Plex Player for macOS : Display issues

PMS Version: 1.16.5.1488
Player Version: Version 1.1.0.831-e1ae73b1
Platform (Windows/macOS/Embedded RPi/Embedded Intel): macOS 10.13.6

There are a bunch of issues with the new Plex player for macOS. All described in details here:

macOS: Fullscreen mode seems to be broken #896
macOS: mouse cursor always visible when playing fullscreen mode #895
macOS: PMP does not start in Fullscreen #894

Is it on the radar of someone from Plex ?

Bugs for the new Windows and Player apps should be reported in the forums. You may also want to subscribe to this thread:

macOS: Fullscreen mode seems to be broken

Test environment

PMS Version: 1.16.5.1488
Player Version: Version 1.1.0.831-e1ae73b1
Platform (Windows/macOS/Embedded RPi/Embedded Intel): macOS 10.13.6

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start PMP
  2. Switch to fullscreen (macOS green button)
  3. Start to play a movie → a gray band on top of the picture is present (it seems to have the height of the application window title bar in windows mode)
  4. All player control button are inactive: user cannot click on them. To activate a button user has to click above the real button position

Current behavior

  1. Fullscreen generates a gray ban that should not be present
  2. Player control buttons are shifted

Expected behavior

  1. No gray band display, image should be centered (between top and bottom of the screen)
  2. Player control buttons should work when click on them not when clicking above the real position.

macOS: mouse cursor always visible when playing fullscreen mode

Test environment

PMS Version: 1.16.5.1488
Player Version: Version 1.1.0.831-e1ae73b1
Platform (Windows/macOS/Embedded RPi/Embedded Intel): macOS 10.13.6

May be duplicate of #503 but issue seems to occurs only when in full screen mode.
May be linked with issue #896 and #894

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start PMP
  2. Switch to fullscreen mode (macOS green arrow)
  3. Play a movie -> the mouse cursor stays visible during playback and does not hide

Current behavior

  1. Mouse Cursor does not disappear after few seconds during playback of a movie

Expected behavior

  1. Mouse cursor should disappear after few second like it does when playing in windows mode

macOS: PMP does not start in Fullscreen

Test environment

PMS Version: 1.16.5.1488
Player Version: Version 1.1.0.831-e1ae73b1
Platform (Windows/macOS/Embedded RPi/Embedded Intel): macOS 10.13.6

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start PMP
  2. Put PMP in fullscreen (macOS green button)
  3. Quit PMP
  4. Start PMP : the application starts in windowed mode instead of fullscreen

Current behavior

  1. PMP “forgets” fullscreen mode status when quitting or fail to start in fullscreen mode

Expected behavior

  1. PMP should remember when user has switched the app in fullscreen mode (green button) and should keep this setting upon restarting as all standard macOS application do. It should start in fullscreen mode not in windowed mode.
  2. A user selectable setting in Player -> Settings -> General to allow “always start in Fullscreen” would certainly be very welcomed.

@darcilicious Ok I’ve done the job reporting some issues in the forum… will see if it is more useful than previous reporting. Most of the time, we (plex pass customers) sees very few feedback and no follow up.
Sorry not to be very enthusiastic, got some disappointing experience with this forum to report issues.

In my humble opinion Forums are not the best tools to report and track issues…

Hi thanks but the problem is not a keyboard shortcut but the fact Fullscreen mode is broken. The app goes in FS but the layout is not correctly redrawn and a free space on top of screen is left empty (see bug report on how to reproduce). Did you reproduce it ?

This is a known issue that I believe is being looked at by the devs.

Ok thanks.

How do a user that fills a bug report can track it ? I do not understand. I do not want to waist my time and do not want to waist developer’s time by reporting issues already taken into account.

Pretty much by reading the forum section you’re posting in https://forums.plex.tv/tags/player-mac
And following the thread I linked to in my first post above.

Which Mac is this happening on and what graphics hardware does it have?

Macbook Pro with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 Mb.

Fullscreen startup issue : all mac (old, recent, Intel or NVIDIA GPU)
Fullscreen activation (empty band on top of the screen) : MBPro / NVIDIA

You’ll need to use the “maximize” button in the title bar I’m afraid.

Some macOS apps do and some don’t. Safari, Garageband, Photos, App Store do not; Messages was the only one I could find that does.

That what I do and it does not work (empty grey band on top after the app is supposed to expand in full screen and layout issue with player buttons)

iTunes does. I see no user benefits of this behavior knowing that the previous version of plex player (call it how you want) was able to do it.

So I resume : the app cannot start in fullscreen mode and it’s probably now a new expected feature, then when you set it in fullscreen it does not correctly expand into fullscreen and it’s not an issue anyone can reproduce so no issue.

Well, all problems solved !
