New Plex remote iPhone app

No turbolag, it is not a matter of updating the apple store. It is a issue we (people from non US countries) have with apple. I bought the remote app from Slovenian store but now the app is not available in slovenian store anymore. And unfortunately we can’t make an update of the app.

Same issue here in Canada…

:frowning:

I will wait a while longer (in case it’s an update issue), but Turbolag, could please see on your end as well?

Guys its not even up in the US store either. So its not a country issue. I would stress some patience. Looks like he just sent the update. Gonna have to give it some time.

okokokok…

I guess we are like kids in a candy store!

Im in Canada, and I see it in the store. No need to panic.

I got the update earlier today (im in UK). Still a problem with movie fan art disappearing once you scroll back up the list (tv shows is fine though). I run os4beta3.

First, thank you for making this plex iphone remote control! really appreciate doing this for us all!

I’ve tested a lot of plex remote apps for iphone and controllr is so far the best.

Still there is much room for improving.

  • have the same problem with movie posters that disappear after scrolling back.
  • A to Z scroll bar on the right in TV Shows should be more visible. it gets covered from the show banners.
  • Integrate Plugins -> Media Hound remote does this already http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/media-hound/id351987679
  • Offline Mode. If there is no connection to plex, open the database anyway with a sign that it’s not connected or something…

thanks and keep up the good work!

Turbolag, this really looks great in the itunes store. But before I buy it I would like to know if you plan to support the iPad. If you do then I could hardly resist to buy it... ;-)

I don’t know how often Turbolag is monitoring this thread, I have played around with the iPhone version of Controllr on the iPad and I don’t think it would take to much work to get it working with the big screen. I emailed Turbolag about it, but I haven’t had a response yet.

There is a modification you can make to the info.plist of iPhone apps to make them run full screen properly (without using the 2x).

It works great for apps that haven not been specifically hard coded with graphics or screen references in the code.

Most of the apps I’ve tried it with have worked fine and the apps look perfect as it they were iPad apps!

I tried it with Controllr (see post on page 7 of this thread for screen shots) and whilst graphically it looks fine, unfortunately, Turbolag has hard coded screen parameters (relevant to the iPhone) in the nib files etc, so whilst the iPhoneOS is scaling everything properly, the last 1/4 of the screen is not recognised by touch, so you can’t use the buttons on the bottom of the screen. Other than that it works fine, I even had a hack around with the screen parameters and got the screen to scale back a bit and I was able to use those buttons, so if Turbolag wants to make some adjustments to the existing app, it will be possible to have a universal app that runs at proper res on the both the iPhone and iPad too, using the UIDeviceFamily parameters to identify which product the app is on.

I do follow this thread, and have been building a shopping list of features to implement based on the requests. Unfortunately, as I do this as a hobby, the time a allot is limited. Currently, the highest priority is getting v0.9 compatibility, and to leverage OS 4.0.

Don’t worry Turbolag, I’m sure the majority of us appreciate how much time this stuff takes, even when its not a hobby

Drh, you got to tell me how to do,those modifications to have it look that good on the ipad ! I use the x2 option and it sucks…

Hi Nicofieu,

It's no good really at the moment because there are hard coded iPhone resolutions in Controllr that renders the button bar at the bottom inoperable.
Turbolag advised me he does intend to make an ipad version to graphically take advantage of the larger screen which I am looking forward to!

I still think it would be worth modifying the existing code so the iPhone app can become a universal app and used as-is on the iPad too through the UIDeviceFamily settings rather than have nothing until a redeveloped iPad app can be readied!

Screen rotation etc is likened for iPad apps, but not enforced for acceptance, so a load of work need not be put into that just to get controllr in the ipad app store.
I have seen a few apps like "We Rule" that prove single orientation is accepted.

Forgive the ignorant question, but does this remote function over Blue Tooth or WiFi?

If WiFi can someone point me in the direction of a Blue Tooth remote.

Thanks,

Hi

Just bought the app and totaly like the concept.

But can somebody help me with my setup?

I see all the TV-Shows with the nice Fanart, but in the movie section, there is nothing.

It loads for about 2 seconds and then a black screen.

Any ideas?

Oh, by the way:

@Powertowerpro

It works over WIFI…

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to fill a gap. I have recently purchased the app and intend to use it on my iPad, all seems ok except for the gestures, up down left right do not work, double finger and double tap work as expected but not the directional input.

If I use my ■■■■■■ and send directional keyboard commands that works fine, any idea what might be causing the problem.

Thank for any ideas

Hi turbolag,

maybe you should update your first post? Add the big icon, a clean + clear description of what this app does and a clear link to the store. Don’t expect people to read 5 pages until they find the link hidden somewhere. That would be very helpful - or is that too simple?

Next: I’d love to pay for this app but since I use plex 70% of my time to listen to music the iTunes library support is crucial for me. Will this be in 1.3? Maybe?

Cheers,

Syncopation

It seems as though everyone has been able to connect to Plex with Controllr but me. I can’t get past the client information screen.

Plex Media server is running, proven by a browser check. Whenever I enter either the IP or hostname of my Mac Mini, it thinks for about 10 seconds then throws back the “Host could not be found at x” error. If I enter something that I know to be incorrect, or Plex is not open, it returns the error immediately instead of the 10 second think time. WiFi is on, everything seems to be in order - the Apple remote app can connect to iTunes on the same computer, so at least I have communication there.

Any ideas? I’m running it through a Time Capsule, if that makes a difference. For three bucks this app could be a steal - once I can play with it!

i have the exact same problem! iphone 3gs, mac mini, plex 0.8.5, and also time capsule...

Is the server running on port 3000?

Can you reach this URL from mobile Safari (replace the x's with the IP address of the Mac running Plex:
