"New" Plex Tv Series Agent, Anime Library: Pro and Cons

Server Version#: 1.27.1.5916
Player Version#:

Hi,

Overall i really like the new plex tv series on anime library. it looks beautiful on display info, it allow whitelist and many other thing like fix match display also a photo of the series

Previously i used to build my library around thetvdb and hamatv agent, combine together movie anime and anime series, as scanner i used absolute series scanner. it worked well too.

a few thing i don’t like about plex tv series, maybe you can address me how to bend plex to my desire:

  1. i must rename every file:

let’s give an example: let’s say i’m downloading series two of my hero academia

original title is Boku No Hero Academia

the original name of files would be:

boku_no_hero_academia2_ep_01_title.ext

with plex tv series agent i must use and rename as: my hero academia - s02e01 - title.ext

when i was using absolute series scanner it finds everything i throw at it, with plex tv series if i not rename as it want, it maybe don’t see the file. is a problem, and i a chore

because i have a quite big library 40k episodes and i pick at least 30 new shows every season

  1. Anime Tv Shows Name(title) inside plex is english only:

let’s pick again boku no hero academia as example

i would like to display Boku no hero academia as default title of the series and not MY Hero Academia

is possible?

For example, i was sure to own this series : Love Me, My Knight - Love Me, My Knight - Wikipedia

42 episodes. i didn’t found on plex and i had to found it on pms windows 10 using TREESIZE FILE SEARCH

as result i found out that Love Me, My Knight was listed on plex as Ai ■■■■■ Knight

obviously the most important point is the 1

how many of you use plex tv series agent for anime? do you rename every shows? i don’t want to setup something like sonarr or similar, i have my personal repo where to download anime directly, no need to torrent or similar

Based on my needs i made a mistake switching from thetvdb/hamatv with absolute series scanner to Plex tv series agent?

this post is half a discussion, half a help… i don’t know which pick sorry

Thanks you very much for any reply and/or suggestion

Yes. Once this has become routine, there is not much to it.
Particularly if you use software for this task. Look up Filebot

And there is a third spelling of the title which butchers the english word even more: Aishite Naito.
There are different methods of creating Romaji spellings from Japanese in existence. Particularly when there are words which originate in English, but are used in Japanese as well, you’ll find some butchered versions of them if the person who created the Romaji didn’t have the knowledge to recognise the word and use the original English spelling.

This kind of research you’ll have to do regularly. If the precise spelling of the alternative title hasn’t been added to TheMovieDB.org or TheTVDB.com, you will have difficulty matching it.
Therefore I look up new shows on these websites to find out the best title to use for my folder names.
Sometimes I also have to employ the help of Wikipedia and/or anidb.net

The best method I’ve found is to: switch to the seasons as they are present on TheTVDB. This will present your library in a much more logical way, as direct sequels are not considered separate shows, but separate seasons of existing shows.
The reason to prefer the “aired seasons” method is because not all shows are listed with an “absolute” episode ordering.
(If there are shows which were initially aired with an undesirable episode ordering, these will usually already have an alternative ordering on TheTVDB. You can switch the episode ordering of affected shows on a case-by-case basis.)

Movies which are tie-ins to anime series are usually present in the “Specials” season.

If you encounter difficulty with matching due to the multitude of possible show titles, use the method to supply the ID numbers of ThetVDB or TheMovieDB right in the folder name of the show: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

No, because alternative agents and scanners

  • won’t be officially supported
  • will probably cease to work in the future, when the last remnants of Python and the old plugin system are removed from Plex

The original title of this show is in Japanese, so a Romaji version of it is not considered “original”. And all metadata sources which are relevant to Plex do list the english translation as their localized title. So Plex will of course use this title as well.
The only thing you can do is to edit the title manually and lock the title field.

HI Otto, i already use Filebot, recently i learned how to use format expression to auto move renamed files/shows in a structure that plex like
something like : C:/Users/Manuel/Downloads/WhereToMove/{n}/Season {s}/{n} - {s00e00} - {t}
lead to ~/Downloads/WhereToMove/Firefly/Season 1/Firefly - S01E01 - Serenity as example
i already use thetvdb divided in season (using aired seasons instead of absolute)
a thing you may don’t know is that thetvdb is slowly removing every movies/owa as specials from linked series… so in future we need to look elsewhere, such themoviedatabase or something else

instead of supply id on folder i prefer to use fix match and provide the exact id in this way
example boruto
tvdb-321285 and so on. i think is the same, isn’t?

Enclose it with curly brackets: {tvdb-321285}

Thanks Otto, i think we can close this . i’ll click solution on your 1st reply.
can i kindly ask to have a look, when you or your colleague have time to this post too? Skip intro only when media is added option - Plex Media Server / Metadata & Adding Files - Plex Forum

maybe there’s a chance this option will be implemented or a way to avoid the behaviour i state here
