New Privacy Policy is bullshit.

Looks like it’s time to start developing a new Media Streaming software. Emby is cool, but I’ve been told some things about it. Plex was amazing, it was an awesome switch from Windows Media Center. My family loved it, now what the hell am I going to tell them when my servers go offline. I’ll be blocking what needs to be blocked, and looking for alternatives. If one can’t be found, I’ll start a project.

■■■■ you, Plex Team. Greedy ■■■■■■■ bastards.

@ Those who are bitching about plex pass members being in the list, why remove the ability to get twice the cash? This all about money. That’s it. If Plex pass offered me something better than what the Free Version did, I’d get it. I paid for the apps, nothing else I need.

Agreed. I’m out too. Thanks for a few good years.

Woa, ok, so I see Emby has Mac support and works with live TV via HDHomerun tuners !
So if I find out that their privacy policy doesn’t suck ass like Plex is doing with theirs and that I can watch live OTA TV on my Rokus I’ll ditch Plex in a heartbeat.

Sorry Plex, you’ve screwed yourselves in a big way. Expect the exodus to begin shortly!

Buh bye !!

I guess I am joining the list of not updating and looking elsewhere if this goes into effect. I really enjoyed plex but this is a deal breaker for me.

emby software license can be found here (https://emby.media/license.html)

"Statistical Usage

Please note that the “Software” collects and sends to Us certain usage and other statistical information as it relates to the Software. In specific, the Software sends to Us, the version of the Software you are running, the Operating System and version which it is installed on, as well as the technical environment and setup of the Software. The Software does not collect any information as it relates to a User or a User’s media or library."

Terms like “technical environment and setup of the Software” may very well include data Plex intends on collecting.

I am out too. i just unsubscribe right now. you are dead to me

I’m out too

Plex team, how does this align with the European Union Data Protection Regulation laws?

I’m obviously not a lawyer but it looks like you would want to review your position carefully seeing how it requires you to allow users to opt out and even ask for data removal. Comes into come into full force in 25 May 2018.

I wonder if they even know these upcoming laws are a thing. You don’t need to be a lawyer to read that it is not compliant.
A more spelled-out version.

I’m seriously furious at this; We live in an age where our (personal) data has become a commodity for advertisers and governments alike. I was annoyed at the default opt-in of this statistics gathering, but now we can’t even opt-out anymore, despicable.

I had a nice run with Plex but I think I’m going to look for alternatives as well…

Any way to get a refund on Plex Pass lifetime if they really are going to do this?!

This is a nogo. im out too if this comes

I have a lifetime Plex Pass subscription.

Plex is a great product but this privacy policy is bullshit.

If this policy is not reversed, if I no longer will have the possibility of opting out of what I consider an intrusion in my privacy I will be looking for other options - Emby comes to mind - and I will not be recommending Plex as I have been doing in a long time.

I love Plex but this is totally wrong.

Statistics information, LOL. What a joke. That’s the most BS of all. And we believe it. We’re all suckers.
I for one am opt-in(I don’t care) BUT I completely agree that we should have that option. Some people want that privacy and choice.

Thanks for this crap. Made me to look up alternatives. Found Emby. Looks fine so far.

See you. Or not…

Go email Plex and request a refund for your Plex Pass. State the reason why.

Speak with your wallet.

plexpass@plex.tv

This change may help anyone wanting a refund.

One of the worst things (after collecting the data) is that they use google analytics instead of a open source analytics like https://piwik.org/

I have submitted a support request to get my money back as a lifetime member. I think it is a rediculous decission.

Tell us how that went.

Lifetime Plex Pass subscriber here, Plex is disabled for now until this is reverted and contemplating on requesting a cashback.
Emby is indexing as we speak!
