New Problems with Plex on Sony Bravia after update

Since the last update (8.23.0.27973), PLEX no longer shows that a film has already been played. All films are unmarked.

More: The status of the last unseen episodes before the update is displayed on the start screen (in the example “8"”). Likewise in the series view (i.e. season 01). The actual status is displayed in the library view (“2"”). The indicators are completely missing in the seasons for the episodes.

A bigger and also annoying problem is that the automatic playback of the next episode does not work in series. PLEX always reports the error that the server is not powerful enough to play the film. If the film is started directly (from the overview of seasons or start screen), everything runs …

However, the second problem has existed for a long time …

Having similar issues - updated to the latest Sony Bravia firmware and now all the 4k content will not play. Updated plex to see if that would help and sadly not. Also uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted tv etc.

I will add this: After Andriod 10 update, the app is lacking in playback. It is so hopeless, I had to use med Tablet and cast to the tv.

I also have the problem that the badges, how many episodes of a serie are unplayed, are not correct. Different information depending on the point of view.

And for the individual episodes there are no longer any indicators of whether they have been seen or not.

I have all the latest updates: Bravia, Android, Plex Player (8.23.0.27973) and Server (1.24.3.5033).

Oh yes. And the problem that episodes cannot be played one after the other also exists for me. But is not because of the movie files. All could be played from the overview. An error message only appears when the automatic system states that the next film is being played.

Apparently there are no more updates. Strange!

Plex tv app on my Sony Bravia A9G 4k is not connecting to my server I tried everything I uninstalled it and then installed it again on the TV them I uninstall the server flex app but nothing is helping, by the way the app on my iPad is working so I can Chromecast movie does anyone have any idea what to do I would appreciate it

Nothing has changed. Same bugs and problems.

Additionally (once again) the app has been completely uninstalled and set up again. Without success.

PLEX should be more concerned with the errors than constantly adding new features.
The best: if you write an email to support@plex.tv, you will get an automatic reply that this account is not being watched …

I’m slowly getting the feeling that the decision for PLEX was wrong …

After Update to 8.24.1.28493: no fixes

Sad to see where PLEX has gone.
Watching series is no longer fun with PLEX.
Once upon a time it was such a good app.

Having similar issues on my Bravisla X900H.

Watching TV shows, the auto play to the next episode always results in an error. I have even been getting the same error when going back into an episode I had to stop halfway through.

The other thing that keeps really annoying me is that the new merged continue watching / on deck bar on the home screen keeps disappearing on me.
Like I click on home and I see the bar for a second before it disappears and automatically goes down to the next library under where it should be.
If I try pushing up on my remote it’s just not there and goes up to the menu options at the top of the screen.

Update to server v1.24.5.5173
None of the problems described has been solved.

In addition, PLEX no longer remembers the last position of the video being played.
If you interrupt and want to continue watching the film later, PLEX starts again from scratch :sob::rage:

That’s right, Plex doesn’t remember the position either.
I believe the bug was introduced with version 8.23.

Are there any other Sony users? Do you also have the problems?

Sony Bravia XBR-65X900F user here, and the Plex Android TV app is awful in my opinion. I do have the latest update v6.7165. I have to do the Chromecast workaround as well. I spent countless hours diagnosing issues only to find that most of them were because of the Plex Android TV app itself. The 100 Mbps ethernet port on the 900F is more than disappointing and frustrating. I experience all the issues everyone has expressed in this thread.

Last attempt: Update to player version 8.25.1 - nothing has changed.
All bugs still exist.

I’m not that much of a technician, but I’ve now found out how to manually install an older version.

The last version where everything still works is 8.21.2.

  • correct display of episodes that have not yet been played
  • marking whether a film / episode has been played or unplayed
  • continue from the last position

The Sony KD49XH8096 needs the version “Google Play (armv7a)”
And you have to uninstall a newer version of PLEX first.

Yes, I can also confirm.

I’ve had PLEX since version 0.xx - a lot has changed since then. It is possible that technical improvements have taken place - but in terms of usability and the basics, the current version is a huge step backwards.

I will also try to install an older version.
