New Samsung Tizen App Preview

Love the new TV Guide feature for Samsung. Had to revert to an Apple TV to have this feature. Weird bug though - my channels display in a random order and I can’t see to adjust a sort order or anything. For example instead of channel 101, 102, 103 etc I have 108, 112, 114, 141, 165 etc.

Only a couple of bugs here

  • Not reading my TV resolution properly as others have stated. Says 1080p in the preview and the UI is also running at 1080p. I have a Samsung 2018 UHD.
  • No shadow behind subtitles

Tweaks

  • No quick access to change steam quality in the player bar. Now have an extra few clicks to change the quality.

Apart from that, seems good so far. Loving skip intro. Best feature in a while.

Hey there, trying the new beta, version 5.0.9, some thoughts:

CONS

  • Like others said, I have a 4K TV but it’s being detected as HD only, so the interface is kinda blurry

  • Feedback sounds come back

  • Subtitles color is not saved, they are always white no matter what I choose, also I don’t like the font

  • There’s no option to blur the background of the info page

  • TV Shows should remember what I chose, Overview or All Episodes, it always goes to Overview

  • The More Info item is too buried under the 3 dot (More) button, why not just add another Info button?

  • When I reach the last item of a row, if I press right again it should go down a row, to the next item, why do I have to press down first?

  • The media controls, when watching something are way too big, they take up like 3/4 of the screen

  • There’s no resume playback, they always start from the beginning

  • The buffering circle doesn’t show the Title name of the video to watch

PROS

  • I like the new search for subtitles option, very useful

  • The interface feels snappier

  • I like that TV Show Episodes change from one to another without the Enter button

SUGGESTIONS

  • I’d like to see a button to hide the filters on Library view, or maybe a 3rd tab called Filter?

  • Font picker

  • I’d like for the left bar to behave more like Netflix, auto hide when pressed, or have the option to keep it “minimized” like the web

Hello!
Besides the bugs already posted, the remote control play/pause button no longer works for play a selected video: the only option now is to press the “select” button.
I agree with other users and think that the player can improve relative to the excessive clicks to change or found something. Seems worse, actually.
Thanks!

TVGuide Finally! Looks great. In addition to items noted above, filter options for TV Shows, the first filter I select unplayed but it doesn’t save it, the other filters save, so if I go to a different library and come back I have to select unplayed again. Other library’s appear to save the filter…

Looks great! But TV guide sorting needed. I have everything numbered in order using xteve, but in the new guide the channels are in random order.

One thing I noticed straight away is that it’s more cumbersome to change subtitles for a title. Used to be a sub-menu item for subtitles directly after the three dots (“More…”).

I am unable to connect to my server over my local network:

Model: QN75Q60RAFXZA
Software Version: 1356.2 (Tizen 5.0)

When I “Enter Early Access,” I am unable to connect to my server (on the same local network). Clicking on Media Server Status shows my server is “offline or unreachable.”

If I revert and “Leave Early Access,” all is well, and I have access to the server again.

I’ve tried signing out, deleting the app and reinstalling, the issue persists.

Model: UN43MU6100
Software: Tizen 3.0

The new version feels snappier, which is great. But some issues are making me think to revert:

  • Subtitle color not working. Even forcing them on SRT.
  • My TV is 4K but it’s recognizing it as 1080p, which makes the interface blurry.

Firmware: 1292.1

Sometimes I get these weird artifacts:
Subtitles
Playback info
Playback modifiers

Samsung UE55KS7000.
Font sizes on the home page are too fat and bold. Whilst the left hand navigation pane is the same size, I can not longer see one of my longer library names. It’s truncated and only scrolls when I nav down to it. Looks worse imho.

Thanks for this update, the interface is much faster then before.
I found a bug: I can’t select the language in subtitles search anymore. When I go to search for subtitles I can only saw the subtitles in the language English, and can’t change like was before.
The player option (when videos is playing) occupies more than half of the screen space, I don’t see reason for that, and this way it’s bad for those who use subtitles.

Really? I have the opposite effect. All the HEVC Main 10s are Direct Play now, where before they were transcoded

Model: UE55Nu8040
Firmware: 1294.1

Guide channels not in order. Channels don’t actually play, it buffers for a while then a black screen even though Plex says I am watching something.

After a lil bit of the black screen I get Playback Error
Recording failed. Please check your tuner or antenna.

I’ve experienced some of the same glitches others have mentioned. One huge plus I’ve noticed is that direct play for 4k movies now actually works. With the “old” version no matter what I did 4k movies would be transcoded, despite my doing extensive research on exactly what codecs and formats my 2019 model Samsung supported and could play natively. Now, all 4k content plays through direct play, and it does so without buffering and starts playing immediately, which is a far cry from previous experience on the old version.

My one complaint is that HDR still doesn’t seem to be working properly. 4K HDR content is still dark and has washed out colors. If this can get fixed I can work with the rest of the minor bugs until they get resolved.

Good first try, I like a lot of the changes. Having some of the same issues mentioned. Menu looks hazy, playing content is probably transcoding everything ( haven’t checked yet, just first impression).

Things I have seen that hasn’t been mentioned yet is deals with the auto play and skip intro.

Auto play doesn’t work when you don’t run the video to the end. Lets say you get to the credits and exit out the progress bar on the bottom of the episode shows your near the end and the app allows you to list episode as unwatched, but it will not auto play next episode (probably confused).

With the skip intro, it doesn’t recognize (I assume) the intro when you skip before it starts. I noticed that when a show has “previously on or review of past events” and you skip through them. The skip intro won’t come up.

Samsung Nu8000, version 4.29.6 Tizen 4.0
First off i would like to thank you for continuing to make Plex a wonderful experience. I currently have a samsung NU8000 that has always been stable and as of yesterday i notice buffering. It can start 4 minutes into movie then there after every 10 or 15 minutes. Buffering would last 20secs or so. Then continue playing. Whats interesting is that i have users that are currently remote as well that have samsungs and we all buffer at the same time . While all the other devices roku firestv android boxes work flawlessly. It has to be something with new app. Any thing i can possible do on my side to fix.

I experienced the same!

like very much the new app, way faster and subtitles in rtl now show punctuation the correct way which is huge for me

Audio playback has improved with the skip option now working, however the display needs to display the progress like before, and not hidden away - i also liked the old screen update when playing music. Other issue is like others have said, is the font is too big on the home screen
