Hello to all,
This year has been difficult for my 2013 PC and this is the 3rd time it fails and I decided to look to replace it now.
I cannot fault what I had as 10 years 24/7 has done me well.
My current set-up is:
Intel Core i5 4570 - Asus B85M-G Basic - 22GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3
x1 main Corsair MX500 SSD 2TB - x1 3TB HDD - x1 4TB HDD - x1 16TB HDD
I do run remote access to close friends and family, where most will watch SD to 1080p content, very rarely 4k for transcoding. At most will have 3 or 4 running at the time.
4K content is at home via network for myself.
My current setup worked happily and quietly.
I read that Intel is still the best CPU for plex with Quick Sync so I was thinking to look for something affordable to change it.
I doubt i need a GPU as I do not game so this should save me a lot of money.
I am looking at this combo: Intel Core i5-12400 - Gigabyte B660 DS3H DDR4 Intel B660 LGA 1700 ATX - Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200 mHz PC4-25600 CL16 running at around 400€ stretching my budget.
Any recommendation or advice for me if I really need 12th gen or there are options where I can save a lot of money? The CPU has a passmark of just short of 20,000. the MB will need SATA connections at least 4 of them.
Thanks.
Ben
