New set up problem playing films

Hi Everyone,
This week i took the leap into the world of plex and signed up on a pay monthly package as i was new to all of this i thought it was the best way to go.
I am having some problems with my set up and as a newbie i am struggling to see what i have done wrong.
I have my computer set up in a spare room and it is connected to my router with homeplug and it is working fine no problem with internet access or playing you tube videos or games online.
I have plex installed on this PC and its working so far,i have music and films on external hard drives and they play when requested so i am thinking plex is installed correctly and its found everything.

My problems start when i go into my living room where my tv and nvidea shield are located.

If i click on plex it opens and it finds my music and my films and it even plays my albums fine but it refuses to play any of my films,it sees my films and has allocated the art and even shows if i have watched a film or part watch a film in the other room but when i click to watch i get the small rotating circle showing its trying but the film never plays.

Im at a loss why its finds music and plays it but finds films and refuses to play them but does both on the computer.

As i said i’m very new to this so any help would be much appreciated.

My guess is the homeplug device. These things create a sub-network within your regular network. These are fine for reaching out to the world, but cause issues coming in. Your TV and Shield probably cannot see this server as being on the local network so it is actually going out through the internet and back in.

The fix is to remove the homeplug and get your PC connected directly to your router. You can put the homeplugs on the tv or Shield and that will be fine. You just don’t want to use these on the server.
