Plex Media Scanner Deep Analysis.log (6.6 KB)

I’ll take a look on Monday.

A couple of questions:

  • How slow are your disks? Are you using a network drive?
  • Have you paused the conversion queue?

Could it be explained how Plex is able to do this?

Does the server scan the files to determine when there is an intro?

The blog post is quite vague about how it all works exactly. Clarification would be greatly appreciated on this so users know why some shows aren’t working. Does TVDB have any involvement to help Plex with this scanning?

Thanks

thanks @StSimm1! I appreciate you trying to help.

The plex install disk is SSD and the media disks are 7200 RPM. Not using a network drive.

I have not paused the queue. Was told that the scans should take a few minutes at a time. So something is wrong here for sure.

I wouldn’t mind knowing but really I’m not worried about the magic as long as it can work for me.

I’ve got the same problem. It’s running ā€œDetecting intros: Blablaā€, but it stays on the same season forever.
Checked the server (running Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS), and it even stays on the same file forever…

Thought it might be RClone/Google not coping too well, so unmounted that and only pointed to network media on my NAS (mounted with CIFS/SMB). Still the same thing - just stays on the same episode forever. Tried removing that file, thinking it was somehow broken… it just started doing the same thing on another file. Playing the files through Plex works with no problems, but the intro-detection doesn’t do anything. It’s enabled everywhere and the detection starts, but never completes a file.

The load on the server is very low, and the NAS reports low CPU/disk usage as well…
This command has been sitting there for a couple of hours:
/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex Transcoder -codec:1 eac3_eae -eae_prefix:1 59cc618f-4a07-48e9-aeb4-5acd7615408f_ -analyzeduration 20000000 -probesize 20000000 -i /mnt/media/TV/Rick and Morty/Season 04/Rick and Morty - S04E01 - Edge of Tomorty - Rick Die Rickpeat.mkv -filter_complex [0:1] aresample=async=1:ocl='5.1':osr=48000[0] -map [0] -metadata:s:0 language=eng -codec:0 pcm_s16le -b:0 768k -f wav -map_metadata -1 -map_chapters -1 -t 675.88800000000003 /tmp/1f7cf7d5-a668-4d8f-924c-377958df345c -map 0:2 -f null -codec ass nullfile -y -nostats -loglevel quiet -loglevel_plex error -progressurl http://127.0.0.1:32400/video/:/transcode/session/59cc618f-4a07-48e9-aeb4-5acd7615408f/c4e87d23-6c25-417e-a0d6-1eef0aa8fbda/progress

@mescon Hopefully something can be worked out as to why its happening like this for us.

i have the exact same problem also, thought at first it was because i manually analysed a tv show to test the feature after enabling the how to guide of skip intro on this site. but even after scheduled tasks has run at night its still scanning ā€œDetecting Introsā€ with progress circle thats gotten about 25%.
Its been doing this for almost 24 hours now. Everything else works though, doesnt look like its using any CPU or harddrive resources either.

Im running PMS on Windows 10. Some of the drives are usb harddrives.

okay after reading abit around other threads sometimes it does go slow to analyse while others take 8-15 minutes to do a whole season. I’ve set my scheduled tasks from midnight to 11pm (23 hours to run). seems analysing the library can be done partially by the scheduled tasks. I will let it run tonight but i will restart the PMS service beforehand.

Same problem here… Disable detecting intros don’t help. There is something wrong in the last update.

I’ve seen similar on my system too. Single ~23 minute episodes in a series taking more than 30 minutes each to calculate the ā€œSkip Introā€ markers.

I’ve turn off ā€œRun scanner tasks at a lower priorityā€ in Settings > Library.
Didnt help with the analysing but did help when refreshing a library and getting the info from iMDB or TheTVDB.

Maybe this Detecting Intros is running on low prio?

Just wanted to say that the problem persists after updating to version 1.19.3.2852-219a9974e.

This is all running inside a VM with no access to GPU for transcoding - and it’s disabled in the settings as well.

Resolved for me in the last updated. Thanks!

Still not resolved as of the latest server update.

I have attached new log.

It has now been almost 24 hours since 1.19.4.2854, and it’s still trying to scan the same episode…

@mescon Hopefully the bug can be squashed ASAP by the dev team as I would also like to use this new feature with my library.
