Detecting Intros: One Season Stuck

This is my first time posting as I can usually troubleshoot these myself, but this one has thrown me for a loop

I have one season of one show that refuses to finish its detecting intros and its driving me mad.

I have searched for help and found a few things

  1. Check is conversions are paused. There was none running and I attempted to start one, pause it, and resume with no luck
  2. Disable video stream transcoding. Tried turning it off, no luck
  3. Generate chapter thumbnails. Tried turning it off but no luck either.

I have removed the season and scanned the other seasons. No issues. When I add the season back, it tries and gets stuck again. Then I attempted to add it and reanalyze it. NOW I have it showing up twice in my status trying to detect the intros and getting stuck in the same place

I cant seem to find anymore information about this so Im hoping to get some help here
Im totally at a loss. My apologies if this is posted in the wrong area

Old AVI Files, perchance?
These are very often messed up and then cause weirdness as this. I usually solve this by remuxing them into the MKV container. (No change of quality, and the “seek ability” is improved as well.)

I can give you a batch file which does this for all files in a folder, if you’re interested.

I’m having the same issue. These are new files too. One of them is only a few days old. I’ve had it stuck on “Detecting intros” for one season for a few days now, and now another season has popped up.

.mkv files.

C’mon, guys, this is incredibly annoying. I’m having the exact same issue as @Raptor2213. It’s been a few days now and “Detecting intros” is still running and appears to be stuck on one series
 also .mkv files.

Same issue here with .mkv, stuck at detecting intros forever

Well I tried a few more things, and yeah, they were AVI and I tried converting them to MKV with the same results unfortunately. I honestly just got fed up and deleted it from my library, I mean it wasnt THAT good of a show haha. Im just hoping I dont run into this problem when theres something i do want to keep.

Thank you for your reply and help

I’m having the same issue with two different tv series seasons. All of the video files are MKV. I am running Plex server on a Synology DS916+.

I am seeing the same thing. The Activity icon has been spinning forever and ever on one season of a show.

Been a solid month and this issue is still happening – detecting intros for over 3 1/2 weeks for 1 series. By the way, I deleted the entire series over a week ago and it is still “detecting intros” for the show that doesn’t even exist any longer.

Same here. Every night (maintenance trigger?) around 3am it starts doing intro detection and gets stuck on the same show, consuming a CPU core continuously. I have disabled the intro detection feature now.

Unfortunately I have just given up and deleted the seasons that were giving me the problem. Luckily nothing important is doing this now, but I fear that may not always be the case. Hopefully it gets fixes in a future update

Mine is stuck too. X-Files Season 4
Even when I disable “Generate Intro Markers” it is still spinning and stuck halfway through the season! I have to think it has been this way since the feature was added. What is going on?

Stuck on a season here. Did the Plex Dance and it was ok for a while then suddenly got stuck again.

Same here. At first I thought it was only one show but now it seems to be expanding into others that should have already been detected months ago. When this feature rolled out in the spring I had no issues at all and all my episodes seemed to detect perfectly. Now I guess they’re getting re-analyzed and stuck.

Same problem on QNAP 1.21.1.3830

It started a few months ago with one season in a loop. Finally I deleted this season.
But now the problem is occurring on every second new series. I tried anything except recreating the whole library but it is either being stucked or in a loop.

It’s almost half a year now and nothing changed?!

Yeah unfortunately I haven’t been able to find a solution, but its literally just one show and one season that this has been happening to me, but clearly others are having it happen far more often. Crossing my fingers it doesn’t happen to me again and maybe someone from Plex can notice this string of people having the same issue that hasn’t been solved!

I have this issue too. on a few files it seems.
Just upgraded up to Version 1.21.1.3830 on ubuntu headless in vmware.

im getting errors in te console like this:

I installed a fresh ubuntu-20.10 and the latest plex fresh, it works.
why do I have to do this?

same problem here. been a day of ‘Detecting intros’ with no movement. I take it from reading this thread there are no fixes.

adding my name to the list: stuck on one season. Unfortunately this results in the entire server “hanging” (although not crashing). Upon quitting Plex, it becomes unresponsive and requires a full “force quit”. Sigh.
