New Streaming Feature of Free TV and Movies on Plex Won't Stay Pinned

I got an email today from Plex to add the ability to watch free movies and TV shows on Plex. When I click on the link on the email, it adds this feature to my Plex home page but when I go back to that page later, it is gone. I have to click on this email every time and when I go back to it it is gone. How do I add this to my home page permanently?

if the movies tv library isn’t already pinned, then you need to pin it, just like adding/removing any other library to the sidebar.

click MORE > scroll down to plex, click 3 dots, click PIN/unpin

Yes, I have now pinned it multiple times, but when I refresh, it is gone. Any other ideas?

The feature is only available in the ‘hosted’ web app.
You are probably used to call up the ‘local’ web app, which is older and has no support for this, yet.
Make yourself a bookmark in your web browser, which points to app.plex.tv and use that from now on.

Wow, what you describe is way over my head, and yet it worked! Thanks Otto!

Any way to get this to show for managed users?

Yes,

  1. they need to be able to use the hosted web app
  2. and you have to allow them to access it: https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/online-media-sources
Change ‘Movies & TV’ from ‘Disabled for Managed Users’ to ‘Enabled’

Ahh, thank you so much! That was easy.

Ugh. Is it in the roadmap to add this to PMP at some point? I virtually NEVER use the web app. I use the real app on all my streaming devices (Roku etc) and PMP on my PC.

Someday if the “new” Plex app works as well and gives me the same features as PMP I may use that, but this new “Movies & TV on Plex” is useless to me if it doesn’t work in PMP or the native streamers.

Of course I didn’t buy Plex for content I don’t own, but to play my own media from my own server. However, it’s not a value add if strings are attached.

i don’t know if/when it will come to PMP, but all the other supported apps are @ https://support.plex.tv/articles/video-on-demand-overview/

It might get added, yes. After all it shares most of its code with the web app and the smart TV app, so it is very likely to get finished before the feature freeze for PMP is happening.

I hope so! Without a TV mode and mouse/KB control, the new Plex app will likely never see my infrastructure.

So, is there any way to access the streaming of movies and TV on my Roku box with the Plex app?

Otto, I have this enabled for managed users as well. However, it seems to be global and binary. Either ALL managed users can access it or NONE of the managed users can access it.

I was expecting that if I enabled it I could still share or not share it on a per library basis like I can with any of the others.

Am I missing something?

@wbsherm Edit: my bad, yes, Roku is supported. Make sure you’ve updated to the latest version of the app. If you’re still have issues, please start a new thread

No, it is like you said. The content restrictions you have set for these users (IF you have set some, based on ‘age rating’) are to be observed though.

The app doesn’t have an update feature as far as I can tell, so are you suggesting I remove it from my Roku box and re-add it?

How to update channels/apps on Roku (yes, this applies to individual apps/channels):

How do I update the software on my Roku streaming device?

Done. I have the most updated version, but it still doesn’t show the streaming option on the side bar on the left of the screen. Only on my Plex server and other computers running Plex. Any help?

Are they under “More” (bottom of the left nav), then under “Plex”?
