New system: CPU or GPU (Quadro)

Hi Everyone,

Soon I will be building a new system for all my media and Plex server. I’ll probably using 2 maybe 3 transcodes (1080p). I’m thinking about getting an I3 8300T CPU. Although it’s likely that in the future I will need the system to process more simultaneous transcodes or even 4K. This will be problem / impossible with the I3 8300T CPU.

Now GPU cards like the Quadro P2000 has got my attention. And I wonder if it’s worth to invest in a more powerfull CPU or should I just get the I3 8300T and when necessary get a GPU like the P2000 for more transcoding power? What are you’re thoughts on this?
If so does it work with unRAID and does it perform well?

Thanks!

That CPU has the latest Intel QSV that will handle HW transcode of everything including 4K HEVC HDR10. I would expect you can get at least 4 streams from the QSV on that CPU.

I didn’t know that, thanks!. I always thought the passmark score was the decisive factor. So you think that the I3 8300T is a great option?

Considering it is better than a Gemini Lake which easily does the same HW trancodes—yes.

Oke, thanks for your help! Appreciated.
