I seriously don’t know if you people are on drugs or what. What made you think is monstrosity was better than what it was? It is neither user friendly for those not savvy with apps, nor intuitive for those who are. Seriously you need to reverse this change and fire the entire team that okay’d this unmitigated abomination. If I have to retrain my family to use Plex, it would probably be easier for me just to figure out jellyfin and avoid the hassle entirely.
That’s what I keep saying. First fire the people that designed this terrible app. But also fire the people above them that looked at it (or didn’t) and thought it was a good idea to force this update. The entire Plex team are undeserving of their jobs after this if they don’t revert us back to the previous version and apologize for this mess.
I’ve spent years getting my plex setup the way I like it and now Plex took a hot steaming dump all over my experience.
Put it back the way it was. I hate, hate, hate, this update.

This review agrees with you "Hot Garbage": New Plex for Roku update getting slammed left-right-center
I agree. The new Roku interface is so bad. The menu at the top means that we have to scroll all the way back up to pick a different library. It takes so much longer on a large library. The interface is not intuitive and is just a horrible use of space. I don’t know who was thinking that it is a good idea to set it up this way, but please revert to the old interface and go back to the drawing board. The older inteface worked so much better.
The Roku app is wildly unacceptable. This needs to get fixed or I’m done with plex. Jellyfin is free
Does anyone from Plex actually read these comments? I genuinely want to know. Here is the current (as of Sept 17, 2025) tally of comments regarding how absolutely terrible the Plex app on Roku is after this latest “update”:
Forum Name … # of comments
New UI is an awful experience … 249
WTF did Plex do to the GUI on Roku? … 56
Roll it back! … 41
New UI on Roku is Hot Steaming Garbage … 7
THIS IS ONLY ONE DAY AFTER THE UPDATE WAS RELEASED!
I hope not everyone at Plex is colorblind, because this is a huge red flag!
I just went through something like this with a podcast player I had been using forever. It led me to an open source player that is much better anyway. I think Plex is all in on this “Hot Steaming Garbage” app they’ve turned themselves into. I wonder if they’ll enter into a kind of a death spiral with loss of users / horrible ratings, not great when they’re chasing advertising dollars. Anyway, I’ll be switching to Jellyfin, if they don’t reverse this within a week.
I do not have an issue with the update to UI as much as I have an issue with functionality. My OTA recordings are virtually unplayable now. Constant buffering issues, pixilation, etc…
I can watch live tv, but God forbid I pause and restart, here comes the pixilation…
I have spent three days attempting to fix this.
How about this for a side note:
I use Plex as my main media interface. I work from home and I am the only caregiver for my 82 year old mother who suffers from memory issues. She now stops me every time she wants to change anything on the Plex app.
My life wasn’t hard enough…
they didn’t need to change anything. fire whoever thought this was as good idea.
Agreed. Can we get a UI roll back?
Who did you ask that this update was a good idea? The UI developers themselves and nobody else?
Everyone wants their libraries (plus newly added and currently watching) media front and center. Everyone. Did I say everyone? I meant everyone? Actually I meant everyone.
@robertsig I saw BigWheel mention you might have to pin your favorite libraries again to get them to appear on top. I think he only posted into one of the hundreds of threads though. So his replies should be easy enough to find.
not sure if it will help but i added a feature suggestion to seperate new ui into a new app and revert current app to prev UI.
Agreed on all of this. Especially for a large library or lots of libraries where the left side menu makes a lot more sense. I have had to reboot my Roku streambar twice in two days because the UI when watching videos stops responding. Can’t even pause, only the Back button works. How does a UI update break this???
But the single worst thing - easily resolved - is playlists. My family uses playlists extensively. It takes WAY more clicks to get to them, having to navigate to the top, select the library, and then navigate to the left (WTF!), and they are split into Movie and TV Show libraries, not even in one spot anymore.
To fix it, just put the Playlists row back into the home page. That would quiet down the worst of the UI issues for me.
I’m part of the everyone group and I agree with your statement!
