OK, I’ve literally just noticed that Plex has had an update and so far, I find to find it difficult to find many positives, but let’s start with few to begin with (including some historical ones):
The Good / Decent
- Plex is free for what I use it for
- Plex was a fairly good app on the Xbox - it was clunky but still usable
- The interface was pretty much intuitive
- The new app has a decent search feature which works well
- Overall I’ve found it more responsive
The Bad (and some really Bad!)
- Where has the dashboard gone showing what’s recently been added, what I’ve been watching and the ability to continue watching?
- Where is the same information as 1 above in each of the main library areas?
- Where are the playlists
- Whilst I can see what other servers or friends servers are being shared with me along with their status, there is no way to change to them!
- Overall the interface is poor. Interfaces are supposed to be intuitive and in this day and age, given how simple the overall functionality of a media player should be - this is a massive fundamental underachievement.
- The search functionality doesn’t even allow you to use the ‘B’ button to delete text you’ve entered - this is how all text entry works on the Xbox, so it’s poor to miss something so basic. It now relies on more button presses to get where you need to go.
All of this was just from 5 mins of use. Now, it could be that I’ve not given it a chance yet - however it’s not as if I’m unfamiliar with technology and if these options are this easy to miss, then something fundamentally is wrong.
Overall, the update I’m afraid to say is extremely disappointing and the previous version was far better. I realise it’s free, but at the moment, I’d rather pay for another media center application than use Plex moving forwards.
Here’s hoping you fix these issues guys, because from what I see in the forums, my opinions are not isolated.
