Why why would you mess up the interface - The old one was sooo simple and user friendly

Sadly its time to start looking for an alternative replacement for plex . I just cant deal the new interface . I cant find the movies i need and if I have multiple servers I cant access them easily,
Why would you change the last interface it was simple and it worked.
This new layout is a nightmare for me .
Why would you need to organize users movies for them ? This is just nuts . Please give us way to get back the old interface at least or i’m shutting down my 5 plex servers and accounts I really don’t need this headache,

I totally agree. For Xbox One X anyway. (AppleTV just keeps getting better) Having to choose between multiple selections for each server instead of just choosing the server was a horrible design choice. If you only have one server it might be ok … but if you have 5 or 10 it is friggin horrible.

Which interface bothers you? It seems Plex has a different interface on every device it runs on. That is what bothers me a lot. I have Plex clients running on Roku, Android TV, iPad and Web browsers and every single one works a little different. I can get used to one interface, but it would be nice if they all worked/looked more or less the same.

i dislike the changes to the ipad iphone interfaces, I cant find anything ,
Why does Plex feel they need to rearrange my movie layout for me ?
This new mobile interface is a deal breaker for me . I liked Plex when it
was nice and simple , but now its trying to do everything and too much and the interface
The old mobile interface worked well and was simple to use - Leave it alone as simplicity is
one of the reasons to use Plex. If not I guess theres always subsonic as an alternative .

I love me some plex . Part of the appeal of plex ( to me anyway ) is the simplicity and the fact that it just works.

I like being able to say to my mom , “look under flicks and search for xyz”.

With this new IPhone interface I can no longer enjoy this simplicity. Instead I have to send screenshots and make multiple phone calls …aaargh

But what I’m surprised at is why would someone destroy such a great interface ? The layout was great you’d click on movies and there’s your movies. Click on music and there are your tunes. But now aaaaargjh.

Sorry guys this new iPhone interface ain’t cutting it . It’s too busy and too complex. Jumping across servers or searching is painful . How did this happen ? I really am confused .

Plex is like a Vitamix , easy to use powerful and packs a serious punch but , but don’t mess up the User friendliness. That’s one of the coolest things about plex .

Keep it simple lads and bring back the classic interface .

Have to agree here. I moved houses a year ago and only in the past couple weeks got a chance to re-setup a home theater area which uses an HTPC (been limping along with a FireTV Stick in the mean time), and when I updated PMP to the latest I was baffled by the new interface. It’s really bad. So much so I’m thinking of downgrading back to the last v1.X before the new interface was put in. The WAP also plummeted, as it did when our FireTV updated as well back when that happened.

At one point wasn’t Plex trying to make a nice unified interface across all platforms? It was great when my HTPC using PMP, FireTV Sticks, and Samsung Plex apps all had very similar interfaces. Even my Android phone app was somewhat similar in design and functionality (select library then browse or discover within). Now they have splintered the ecosystem and most of them are all equally junk in my opinion. The new FireTV interface (I think similar to Android TV interface), PMP v2.X, and Android are all horrible and sadly different so they are unintuitive going between them. Currently the Samsung one is the only one holding out still that is like it used to be and I dread the day they update it to something yet again completely different. I recently got a Roku too and that still uses the old style as well. They are my favorite devices because of that.

What are the losses for running an old version of PMP? Does v1.X work with Live TV? Anything else lost that has been introduced in the v2.X branch?

Without doubt.
However seeing as Plex have indicated that their aim is that every device will have a universal look, it’s only a matter of time before that interface is replaced.

Well hopefully they pick a not crap one.

There are like 6 pages in that list just for tv shows. Its a stupid stupid stupid design choice.

This is xbox one x interface. Where everyone else can do pass thru and atmos but xbox one x cant. They havent even attempted to define a different profile they all just use the xbox profile.

IOS 12 for atv does pass thru. I just installed the beta but havent played with it yet.

For me, the Plex App on the Roku – my main interface to Plex – is simply unusable.

Essentially, over the past few years, Plex has been getting worse with each update. I just wanna play my locally hosted content…and I don’t care about live TV, HATE the new “must be logged in to do anything” approach…and what about this web site? Light yellow on light gray? WTF?

Who’s steering the ship here?

Clearly, Plex is a lost cause. Only qestion is, which media server replaces it?

Have to agree, on the LG app and the new layout is awful, hard to navigate and just looks like a step backwards. Would be good to have a choice of skins or something, especially as a Plex Pass user.

I typically do not allow my Android apps to auto update. As a result I am not sure when things changed. I juts bought a new tablet and installed the PLEX client on it. What a nightmare it is to find anything now! I have multiple plex servers. and multiple paths set up as different directories for various versions of TV shows and Movies. This was needed since there seems to be NO way to actually have plex directly handle multiple versions of the same show.

It worked great for me till now with the new Andriod interface. Now when I launch it, I have no idea how to find anything. When I search for a show, or seem to do anything at all, it seems to always look at ALL my PLEX servers! I see NO way to just look at an individual server now. It may be there, but I do not see a way to do it. It was so easy to just browse and look in a selected Library before within a single PLEX server. It was so easy to be able to select a desired PLEX server to look at and browse through the Libraries that were on THAT SERVER ALONE. It was so easy to switch between PLEX servers. It was even very easy to just enter a word search to see which SERVER and LIBRARIES contained what I was looking for, or if I had a particular show added to a PLEX library yet or not.

Now the default of looking at every library on every PLEX server takes massive amount of time, bandwidth (when not at home), and resources on the mobile Android device! How does this make any sense at all for a mobile app? If I had a small amount of content on only a very small amount of PLEX servers, it would probably work well enough as an alternate user selectable media view option. For me this is next to worthless, and not very far from it.

So much for buying a new tablet to use PLEX with!

I agree. The Android mobile, Xbox One and PS4 apps have gone down hill. I was initially attracted to Plex because of its simple UI.

Now there trying to automate things for you, e.g., “Top Movies in Thriller”, “More from SundanceTV”, or “Top Movies with Nicholas Cage”. This is ruining the interface. Isn’t that what collections are for? To customize your own categories. At least give us the option to turn all these irritating features off. When I choose “Movies” on the bottom panel, all I want to see are all my movies. From there I can decide to go into my collections.

PLEX, if it’s not broken, DON’T FIX IT.

Any insights from PLEX employees on this messy interface or possible new UI overhauls in the future?

You mean like how they gave folks the head’s up on the current one?

All I’ve really seen is this tidbit.

PLEX MEDIA PLAYER sucks big time its awful ive done with it and moved to third party now with PlexKodiConnect PLEX just want to take your money not bothered about there plex pass users at one time i thought not minding for paying for plex pass cause i liked it but they do there own thing without listening to nothing to there users im thinking on ditching my pass

Please allow the users to switch back to the „old“ interface. I also have three Plex servers and hate, hate, hate the useless offline mode. Who developed such a pain? I am really annoyed and had been happy using Plex Premium for several years. It is not ok to be required to switch to offline browsing to see synced content and I hate the new interface ordered by movie/series categories. I am seriously thinking about ditching Plex.

I can’t understand what they are doing. The old interface worked well. The new one pretty much doesn’t. At the moment I’m coping by dumping PMP and just using chromecasts controlled off the Android app. Which I have reverted to 6.17, the last usable android version before they screwed up the interface on that as well.

I have a moderately sized collection split into curated libraries across two servers. TV series are split into libraries (Drama, Documentary, Military, Miniseries, Reality) on the main server, Movies are on the main server and aren’t split at all. More (ahem) “adult” content sits on a second server lower specced server.

The new android interface puts the libraries together. So when I’m looking for a military episode I have to wade through all the other categories as well (including the Wife’s reality collection… ugghh). The wife gets my military/drama etc sprinkled through the listings when she wants reality. Worse, the adult collection gets merged in with mainstream movies, which is irritating when we are looking for a movie, and would be embarrassing if I forgot to power that server down when we had guests.

Why do Plex seem to think combining this content into one giant rats-nest of stuff to wade through, replacing separated and easily navigated libraries, that this is a good idea and a positive user experience?

Also, their approach to user support over this is annoying me. Mostly it’s silence. But if there are general suggestions, they decline them because they aren’t specific enough. If there are specific suggestions they just shrug them off as “not actionable”. (Translation: we could do that, easily, but we won’t).

I have just put Emby on my test machine, and will be trialling it. If it works out I will do a full migration away from Plex when I’m on leave over Christmas. And they can get subs instead of Plex, who I am no longer paying.
