New "Video Playback Quality" setting?

Server Version#: 1.23
Player Version#: Plex for Mac 1.33

With the new setting in Plex for Mac 1.33 player:

Are there additional details that can be shared about the different options (low, normal, high, maximum)? I didn’t see any in the player support article so was curious what selecting the different levels actually impacts. Thanks!

It is a general setting on how it processes video frames, when upscaling, downscaling, dithering or debanding. The higher the quality setting the more demanding it will be. Sort of like the servers transcoder encoding setting

I’m struggling to see much difference on boring 1080p SDR content!

If Use Hardware Decoding is enabled, is the Video Playback Quality setting still relevant?

Thanks! Additional question that goes along with @Volts

Is this feature more useful for lower quality video files or resized windowed playback? If I rip to a decent quality video file I don’t know that the player needs to improve anything though I could see where managing a resized or upscaled image playback could use some cleanup or in situations of mixed resolutions.

Edit: I know what all those words you used mean but I’m used to understanding them with file conversion setups not direct playback so it likely is my own ignorance.

Yeah you might not see any difference with most stuff that is already decent looking. Things like old low quality cartoons it should be more obvious.
