New video player stops playback 5-10 minutes, old player is fine

After tearing my hair out for an evening my random googling finally turned up a fix: On latest Nvidia Shield with latest firmware, even 1080p x264 webrips will randomly stop playing after 5-10 minutes. Fast forwarding is a lottery, sometimes it works, sometimes it also just hangs.

On my server dashboard the throughput just stops dead. No intervention is required, it just decides not to send anymore. Interestingly, if I test with transcoding (e.g. TrueHD 4K files), the transcoding continues but the network throughput just stops.

Its not my hardware or my network, 400Mb+ on file transfers/iperf (wireless), wired makes no difference, Xeon E3 1245v5 server, rock solid with multiple windows clients (ironic) for years.

Finally googled up people complaining about new player, hey presto, switch to old player and its magically fine again. Hope this post saves someone else the trouble.

If the plex employees who keep posting that the old player is going away read this: FIX THE NEW PLAYER FIRST, look at the number of people complaining about this issue. We’re not all crazy and/or technically incompetent!

The logs are attached, you’ll find heaps of random stops though the last 2-3 plays I have enabled the old player again (and for periods of testing I was switching back and forth). This is the culprit lines
