[BUG] Plex stops audio/video playback after around 8 minutes

Server Version#: 1.18.7.2457-77cb9455c
Player Version#: 7.29.0.15876 (shield tv 2017)

After around 8 minutes of playback the audio/video on the NVIDIA SHIELD TV 2017 stops, the server just continues to send data as if nothing is wrong. I can see the progress on the server and exit the video, playback will resume at the timestamp that the server showed, so in the background everything works as expected.

After resuming playback, video/audio stops again after around 8 minutes.

If I had to take a wild guess after looking at the release notes of this version, I would think this could be related:
“Player: prevent crash when network buffer wraps.”

PS: 8 minutes is a timeframe for a particular video, I’m doing some more testing to see if another video file also stops at around 8 minutes.

UPDATE: Another video also stopped at around 8 minutes, almost exactly at 8 minutes…

I’m seeing this as well, on both a 2018 Shield and a new Shield TV Pro

I am seeing this too, but around 10 minutes. I am going to try to pull logs later. I see this on the original Shield and second version of the Shield. This does not happen with Samsung tizen or Chromecast. It does not matter if I am on LAN or WLAN.

@mocramm, Plex is going to request logs from the Android TV. I will try to post mine when I can.

Same issue. Sudden freeze during playback, usually around 10-14 minutes into video. Happens consistently. Tried opting out of new player, left beta program, checked h264 level… No dice. Will follow with logs later. Nvidia Shield (original)

mine happens almost every time at 31 minutes, doesn’t matter if it’s transcode, direct play, 4k, 1080p. it’s happening on both a new shield pro, and a previous gen shield tv.

It appears plex has pulled the 7.29 update from the play store, remove the plex app updates and re-install so that you get 7.28 back, then don’t forget to disable auto updates, just to be safe.

Confirmed. Uninstalled updates (was on 7.29) … After manual update now on 7.28. Thanks for letting us know.

Thanks, going back to 7.28 fixed the random stopping.

Can anyone confirm if version 7.29.1 fixes this?

Check the setting in your server under Network->Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than and make sure its set to 0. This is a bug that was reported in beta forums but apparently made it to the 7.29 release.

Whatever update was pushed on March 9th to Android TV is still broken and contains the random stoppage bug. I uninstalled it and re-installed 7.28 via APK and the problem was fixed again. Get your sh-tuff together Plex, wtf.

I think I’ll keep 7.28 running for the moment then…thanks for the confirmation.

Me too I have Nvidia Shields in my house and the kids android tablets all pausing after about 8 minutes then crashing. The Samsung TV also has this issue.

I’m on server version 1.18.7.2457

Hoping for a quick fix as its a massive issue.

Thanks!

See a potential solution here. Disable the New Player in settings.
