New video player - use Home button on iOS to minimize video

Server Version#: 1.14.0.5468-5a0183d2c
Player Version#: 5.8

Been playing around with the new video player, and so far I’m loving it. No more transcoding!

One minor thing: On iOS with the old player, while you are playing a video, if you push the home button, the video minimizes into the corner of the screen and continues playing. Oddly enough, I have gotten very used to this, so I can check an email or do some quick action while the video continues to play. With the new video player, if you push the home button, the video stops playing and Plex quits to the home screen.

Is it possible to mimic this behavior from the old player? Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Nope, that’s not possible. There is a new button on the top right of the video player for the Picture in Picture feature. You tap on that button, the video will minimize as you describe, and then you can press the home button in your iPad.

The problem is that feature only works with the old player, and we cannot switch to it “automagically” when you press the home button  I tried to trick iOS in several ways but no luck. If you press that button, however, the app will switch to the old player (that could involve transcoding) and the feature will work.

Sorry!

Ah, well … thanks for the reply, and actually now that I know the minimize button exists, I can definitely get in the habit of using that rather than the home button. Works for me… thanks!
