Video player "minimises" to navigation bar

If I’m watching a series or movie and I navigate away, the videoplayer moves to the navigation bar, shrinked. Sometimes, when I start playing an episode, it even starts in the navigation bar, shrinked.

How can I completely disable the minimised player in the navigation bar? If I navigate away and want to go back, I’ll just go back to the episode itself.

How do you do that, with a video playing?
AFAIK, the only way to do it, is to either

  1. explicitly minimize the player. i.e. triggering exactly what you describe as “shrinked into the navigation bar”
  2. stop playback

You should do 1) only if you intend to go back to the video in the current watching session. In all other instances, you should do 2).
(Background: 1) will keep occupying server resources until you stop the playback.)
