New XBOX ONE app, Love or Hate it?

After using the new app I am wholly disappointed, the main UI is horrendous to navigate if you have different folders for the same sub header, I.E. I have 2 TV shows folders, one for normal TV and one for Anime.

So for me personally I really dont like the way it works,
I hope they bring out an option to choose which layout we can have.

But what do you guys think?

Personally I’m a big fan of the new UI. I prefer it grouped by library type rather than just in alphabetical order. Plus, it remembers the last library you used, which is nice if you typically use the same library for a particular library type. There are situations where a different setup would be better, like the situation you describe. Plex has mentioned that they’re looking at ways to customize, so user options that allow breaking out libraries or being able to switch servers more easily may be available in the near future.

Really really hate it.
The previous version was sleek - had on deck and looked very clean

this version is orrible

how to get the previous versin back ?

Its sad to say that i bought another XBOX One 3 weeks ago after using one for 2 years as my main viewer for Plex and now both are unusable. If I knew this was going to come out i would have bought something else as I don’t play games just used it for Plex.

I am in a similar situation: PMP switched to 1.x (inspired by the old XBone UI) to 2.x (the same you are experiencing now). I have 4 libraries: Movies, Anime Movies, TV Shows, Anime Series. You can imagine the frustration of using the new UI

It’s awful. Try being down 5 movies into a library and want to switch to TV Shows. The new interface is designed by a masochist. In any of the old interfaces you could hit left a couple of times to get to the left menu and be able to easily navigate all your libraries quite easily.

I can’t image how they plan to use the new UI when they start adding News, EPG, DVR and Live TV to it. It all “worked” using the left menu and we had our playlists and channels there as well which are now buried.

I just checked it out as I don’t use it often. Mostly just over at the girlfriends house…

I really don’t like it either. The layout makes much more sense either the way it was, or the way it currently is on Roku… (which is pretty much exactly the same as it was)

Dear Development Team, It’s cool that you want to try new things and all, but give us a choice between Old Coke and New Coke. Nobody likes New Coke FYI… except that one guy above… he does.

[EDIT] Grey and black themes are cool. Blurry mud themes are not.

It’s absolutely horrendous compared to what it was like. The only thing I personally wanted was the ability to view by folder like on the app built into my Samsung tv, rather than say going into anime and seeing everything. I’d also have loved the ability to switch to a list type view rather than horizontally. I used the Xbox app over the Tv plex app as I have a Xbox One S (soon an X) and everything looked better on the Xbox app, quality, and subtitle wise. This new app though… so hard to navigate, so much longer to get anywhere. Really badly thought out.

Seems there’s no edit post feature, the things I wanted added have been, which is great. Need to use this more but certain things like navigating to a directory take longer than needed.

@Judicas If you go into a library you can switch the view type to By Folder, which is what I think you want. A list view type for libraries is also available.

To everyone, we’re listening to your feedback and gathering data. What I personally would love is for people to give the app a good whack for a week or so and then see how they feel. Saying that we know we can definitely improve a bunch of stuff in the app and we have plans in motion to do so.

I like the new app but the home screen navigation is sometimes sluggish. Playing the next episode in a season is much better now, just wish it had auto-play next episode like the Amazon app does. I realize this app was rebuilt from the ground up so I’m hoping some more features will be added soon.

Continuous play for episodes will be coming in the near future!

@Moussa while we appreciate your patient and kind assistance with the users here on the forum, ‘giving it a good whack for a week or so’ is simply not an option for a majority of users.

If it were simple UI/UX experience issues / people not liking change, that would be one thing. The problem is that are quite serious issues with actually being able to use the app now that we’re not present just 24 hours ago such as subtitles, languages, mkv, overscan, resolution, frame rate, collections, thumbstick issues, connection to server, and more.

You, or someone else from Plex needs to be completely honest with us whether these issues are going to be fixed in a timely manner (not weeks - days), you will roll back or side release the old app, or what our expectations should be.

We, the users, and consumers need to be able to make a proper decision as to whether we can wait for this to be fixed or find another product to use.

Remember the old adage in business: the customer is always right. It seems in this case you guys are saying all the customers are wrong.

@Moussa it’s going to be hard for me to give it a good solid week’s run when I have the other interfaces to use. I really feel you were better on track in the old organizational structure.
If all the Plex apps are headed in this direction then I’d dump the product. I invested lifetime because I loved what I saw.
Thank you for engaging. There may be great operational updates here. It really dropped out for me in the usability category.

My initial impressions are not very positive. Seems like it takes more steps to get to my libraries. FFD/RWND using the controller bumpers or whatever they are freezes play, Subtitles suddenly stop appearing. Was this version ever tested?! These should have been caught with even the most cursory testing.

I do appreciate the search function though. I’ll take another stroll through it tonight and see, maybe it’s just the shock of newness.

@Moussa Appreciate you listening to the feedback. Hopefully there’s an easy solution that works for everyone. If you can, take a look at how TiVo implements navigation. TiVo has user customization that allows for “showing categories” and if it’s checked it groups videos by News, Kids, Movies, etc. and the user can pick the categories that they want displayed. For Plex, you could have a “show media types” and if it’s checked, the media is grouped by type like it is now. If it isn’t, it would appear in libraries like before except with navigation at the top. Add to that a way to show all servers at the same time, or just select the 1 or more servers that you want to see. Might be a good solution to allow users to tweak it the way they want.

Apart from some obvious bugs which need to be fixed, I like it a lot more than the old version. And as for people complaining about it being “unusable”, that seems a little over the top.

All I’ve read about on this forum for months is “Xbox has been abandoned” and “why can’t we have a UWP version of the app”.

So many people complaining about “On Deck” being gone - no it isn’t.

Subtitles disappearing is a pretty big bug, but (I’m pretty sure) you can workaround it by just setting the option to always burn in subtitles, then give the developers a chance to fix the problem. Transcoding for subtitles has been required for years, so a couple more weeks while the problem is fixed is hardly a major issue.

And how about being a little more constructive (and polite) in your feedback? Especially non Plex Pass users (like myself) who use the product for free. I’m not talking to everyone, and not just in this thread; but the sense of entitlement from some people is mind boggling.

And please give the developers a reasonable chance to fix the bugs, it’s not like they can just snap their fingers.

@Moussa has been very good at responding to feedback on the new app since it’s release and I, for one, would like his participation in this forum to continue. This probably isn’t very likely if all he gets are complaints and demands.

I’m on-board with not liking the new interface at all. It seems overly-simplified, and we’ve lost control of a handful of more advanced options already outlined by others - and, why of all things would the app automatically “stuck” itself in 720p on an Xbox One? Really?

After tinkering with it tonight, I have to amend my assessment. I actually do like it when I’m digging around. Shows and seasons feel very functional once deep into the tree.

I still really don’t like the Home layout. That’s the one thing that isn’t working for me… and maybe the original grouping once in a library. After you get into a selection though, I like that.

You don’t need to wait for that week: the same UI was deployed on PMP months ago (counting the forum only preview and the plex pass beta). The immediate response was the same, and after months of using PMP 2.x people are still complaining that the way you access libraries is not intuitive, it’s cumbersome, it’s much wars than the old version.
