I’m sorry if I’m starting a new post… but I just can’t sign a post saying that the whole app is trash. (Xbox one new app is trash!
Even though I’d sign almost everything said in that thread.
I still think that the “app” is pretty damn awesome… still in its current state.
But maybe you took a step in the wrong direction with the update.
I do fing hate the new UI. It fing sucks and I do not understand what you were thinking. Did you do a massive hire surge and lost control somewhere? Do you need help?
I’m just confused from all the years of good sh*t.
It looks ok depending on personal tastes.
Functionally it’s a bit vomitous. We wished for an update for so long, turns out that idiom “be careful what you wish for” is pretty accurate

They don’t deserve a free pass because it might be resolved. They, like their users, should be able to accept constructive criticism without resorting to personal insults. I may be simultaneously grateful for the product as it has been over the years, whilst being critical of their design and development choices more recently. Humans are complex like that
The brutal truth is that despite the strength of the software in so many other respects, they’ve made some genuinely serious design errors with this UI. They haven’t recently made these errors, apparently the same UI has been on other platforms for a while? Anyone who makes a mistake needs only learn from it and move forward.

Well, it’s their service and we can only suggest changes at the end of the day. It’s like me calling my cable provider to complain because they changed the interface, do they listen? nope. It’s no different in this case.

whats it look like? is it as bad as the fire stick? pics?
lolyesandno - it is very, very horrible, and yet in completely different ways than the FireTV nightmare we’ve had to live with.
I thought plex XBOX development had been a halfway decent job banging on about feature parity, but this is just plain awful in entirely new ways from FTV/FTVS lol.
I really liked the previous xb180 version. it worked and looked nice and I would often use it when I got sick of the new “improved” FireTV application.
The new xbox app uses the same type of interface as PMP. It’s the top menu that most people are talking about. It has a very different way of working that many people aren’t used to. To switch to different movie type libraries or different TV Show libraries you need to use an UP click for an additional menu to choose the specific library.
This newly selected library now becomes the default for that library. If you only have one movie library and one TV library it’s no big deal, but if you have multiple different movie libraries such as:
Movies
Screeners
3D Movies
MVC Movies
4K Movies
Then you have to keep switching your movie type/selection to this new library which then becomes the new default. The Hubs and interface then change based on the libraries selected. It semi-changes the old style default home hub. Playlists are also handled differently in this UI and are part of the HUB now vs as part of the library menus. Same with channels.
It’s just different.
Where this new UI can become really powerful is for people who run multiple servers. Say for example you run your music and pictures on a different server than your movies/shows. This new UI doesn’t care what server the content came from. When you pick/select a library from the top menu it shows you all servers and libraries of that type so you can select it. That is VERY POWERFUL and a STEP in the RIGHT DIRECTION!!!
That would allow you to do something like:
Server 1: Movies
Server 2: TV Shows
Server 3: Music and Pictures
Server 1 & 2 could be running on a ShieldTV while Server 3 could be your under powered NAS that can’t transcode video but has no problems with handling music or pictures.
The new UI seamlessly “blends” the libraries from these 3 servers into the same interface/hub making it seem like one big server. But obviously the transcoding when needed is spread out on the back side!
So this new UI direction has some real benefits behind it. It’s mostly the UP “drop down” that is the issue a lot of people don’t like at present since they aren’t used to it. Maybe Plex needs to refine it a bit, maybe we get used to it. But the new UI does allow for a much more blended experience for those running or wishing to run multiple servers and could be really cool for those with a couple of ShieldTVs or NAS boxes.
It’s trash. I have to assume it has one developer, part time, and they just said “do whatever since we don’t care about Xbox anyway”. It’s that bad. How they can feel that this thing is quality is beyond me.
It’s pretty sad when you are pretty much forced to buy another piece of hardware to use in place of your Xbox in order to get a decent Plex experience in a room. Looks like I need to buy another Nvidia Shield.
Plex why do you do such a great job in some areas and then allow for wildly poor work in others? You have platforms with great experiences and you fail, for some reason, to replicate those over. Stop acting like a dysfunctional family and get things working consistently well across all platforms!
I agree that the new interface is not great. I don’t care what it looks like. I don’t even care that it often selects the wrong server. My biggest gripe is that the pause command no longer works on xbox one and additionally rewind or fast forward, only do so in 10 second increments. Kind of a problem if you want to watch the last 10 minutes of a 3 hour movie. It appears to be come sort of button/voice mapping problem.
