It’s not the bugs, the bugs are “ok” you can live with them and wait for them to be fixed. It’s the UI/UX that is bad, for anyone with more than one library for each “category” the new UI is a huge step back from the previous one
I agree on the navigation part in the upper menu’s, they are a step back indeed. But you make it sound as if the whole UI/UX is a step back. I don’t agree with that, I like the new UI alot better then the old xbox app.
Alot of usefull information is shown in 1 screen (collection, related movies, actors etc).
Redesign the navigation part to the left menu, or/and make it easier to quickly navigate through media (Cayars made some good examples in his posts). Bring search and playlist back to the home screen and we have a much improved interface.

I may agree that the new UI “looks” more beautiful, but I still think it’s a bit more “boring” because it uses just horizontal lists and vertical scrolls of posters.
Some issues already pointed out in the PMP TV2 interface:
When you scroll down in a library view you lose the information on which library you are in, because the top bar changes and reference to the library name disappears.
In the old UI when browsing movie posters you had at the bottom of the screen the movie name, year and rating in large fonts, this is no more in the current poster view
When you see a TV show the episode list is horizontal, it makes it less intuitive to navigate
Search is library specific
Alot of usefull information is shown in 1 screen (collection, related movies, actors etc).
This is the only real plus, but at the expense of:
movie plot reduced to a few lines and cropped in movie detail screen
movie director missing in movie details screen
Honestly, there is A LOT of wrong in this UI/UX, the old PMP 1.x and XBox interface was criticized for hiding stuff down many clicks, but this is even worse. The only UI complaint most people had on the old UI was the horizontal scrolling of movie posters, which was nowhere as bad as the issues in this TV2 UI.
Sadly it doesn’t seem things will change soon as the UI is simply spreading “as is” from PMP to other client, instead of being heavily tweaked as it needs.
I’m a monthly Plex Pass subscriber, and have a very extensive library. I watch several movies/shows a week across various devices; and, after having to deal with the update on the Xbox One last night to get a movie going, I am considering dropping my Plex Pass altogether, moving my media to another media platform, and revamping my media player configuration across my environment - despite a handful of the small changes that I like in the new interface. In other words, I am willing to spend the few weeks of off and on involvement to move to an entirely different platform because of how bad the new app is. To some, that sounds extreme and unreasonable; but, I am paying for a product, for it to work - properly. I am not testing out an open source platform where the development is expected to take wonky, and sometimes unwanted course changes.
I have a feeling that Plex is going to lose a good number of customers over this. I have a much better idea - let’s use the original app design converted to UWP (or migrated), and then start adding some of the more desireable tweaks present in the new app [the one that so many people obviously don’t like].

I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve been a Plex Pass (monthly) subscriber for years now and I’m also seriously considering dropping my subscription. I don’t mind being asked to be a beta tester, but being forced into it is unacceptable.

While I seem to be one of the very small minority that like the new app, I do have to agree with the point about being a beta tester. Many of us asked to be beta testers before it was released, but it doesn’t seem like anyone was invited. Definitely seems like selecting users with a variety of different Plex setups to test in beta first, would’ve helped build a more accepted app.
Well said. As a developer, I know change is difficult, but again, this is 2017. There are literally TONS of ways to include users in betas or at least gain feedback on upcoming changes. UI aside, the underlying bugs and changes are really what irk me. I can get used to the UI (or not, we shall see), but bugs that could have been rooted out by conducting a proper beta test and end up getting released as part of a new build are unacceptable.

Yes, I know. Seems to be partially a product of the modern day app development cycle. Time to market is more important than quality (ironic I know because we waited 18 months for this app ) Some dev teams get it right, others don’t. I can think of a few dozen other apps that constantly break every time they get updated. In a world where regression testing and beta tests should be built in as standard practice, I completely agree, some of these issues should never make it to production.
But, it is what it is, the Plex devs can fix it. They’ve fixed problems like this before. It would be nice though if they could add more quality control and alpha/beta testing to their process.

Echoing this. I can’t give the UI a chance, if the underlying app is buggy and unstable.I’m having issues with playback (stuttering, dropped frames, choppy audio) and subtitles don’t work for me for more than a few minutes at a time. The latter issue in particular is a complete deal breaker, as my SO is hard of hearing.
So while I’m willing to give the UI a chance, I cannot and will not use the app if it’s fundamentally unstable.
@Moussa I like what I see on the new app and I am eager to give it a wack for the next week or so, but I am unable to connect to my mediaserver. I can see the server, but when I select it nothing happens. No errors, no indication of connecting or anything.
I gave it another run last night, I can understand now the philosophy behind the library access controls. Still don’t like it. It’s cumbersome and unintuitive. Once I’m in the library though, I think it’s OK. I need to push it around more to see if I actually like that aspect of it.
The subtitles thing is huge for me. I know you guys are working on it and hope it can happen soon.
I do like the bumper “bump” forward and back a few secs. If the step size can be configurable, even better!
As someone who has been in IT for a number of years i understand that there is nothing more constant than change.
I like the new ui, as does my wife. We dont use subtitles and have a server that can comfortably transcode everything to cope with no loss of frames etc. so can wait for the bugs to be fixed. It works for me.
Definition of works: works on the platform i want with no bugs that at stop me getting the work done.
What i am annoyed about is that there was very limited testing or parallel running.
Beta testing, or insider testing as ms call it these days, is a must and it would have reduced the number of issues with the build and the blind panic that the plex devs must be in right now.
I hope that it is a lesson learned.
As a paying subscriber that lives outside the US, i would like to see the new uwp app have voice integration with the new voice apis which have been around for some time before the old voice ui was removed. It feels like Plex were caught short a little.
From reading the posts here (the sensible ones at least) it seems that many leople are in the same boat as me and miss the voice navigation
I will use my media remote for now but would like to know an eta for the feature in order to decide whether to cancel my subscription or not.
Why changing a working interface for something really ugly … Im really desapointed. too much works for nothing.
btw plex devs still devloppe new interfaces while people waits and request new features since many years.
I rarely have anything to say but on this update I HATE… LoAThe… Strongly dislike it. No intuitive way to switch between media servers… it was top right select a server before. The new top right menu has a server option but seems to do jack all to switch the home view.(as in you click on a different server and it just sits there like “oh this menu is just for show”) I preferred switching servers over the top menu where I have to select a media type then hit up then over a ridiculous amount of times to select a folder on the server I want then go back down and over to the home button to show my on deck for that server, instead of the old way where I select the server and only see those folders on that server.
The choppy menu and long load times of the content now (which often produces an error) is a horror to deal with. The main UI is decent with the netflixish approach to selecting ur deck content. However who was the bright scholar who made it so I can’t search content unless I go thru the messy menu process to select a specific folder. I should be able to click on my server root folder and search from there(u know how most apps have press y to search, then maybe have options that narrow down the location from there: I mean is ur program designer I highschool kid?) The navigation of menu makes the rest just worthless.
Prefer us to wait a week before commenting?? Why? Intelligent people can see the flaws within a few mins. I have loved plex since it began and have a lifetime sub but this is the first time I have been so irritated that I actively started looking for alternative apps. Maybe plex should employ a beta test group for major ui changes before sending loyal customers /fans into a meltdown :’( :’(

And how wonderful it is when you move from left to right to reach the settings menu and all categories start switching while you move, lagging and stuttering while trying to load stuff… so neat, so slick…

This might be caused by the server producing and caching scaled versions of the artwork needed for the new UI, might improve with time.

It took me some time on PMP TV2 (same UI) to understand that search was now “per library”. Such a silly idea… at least add a “global” search in the home page.

If the experience with PMP V2 has something to teach, it’s that after a week you’ll have even MORE complaints, and besides, isn’t it hilarious that they are telling you to “wait a week” after they got MONTHS of bad comments for the very same UI? Does the teams even speak with each other? LOL
I like how you can see and click on the actors at the bottom now, that’s desperately needed for the Nvidia shield! You get no info on there. So be grateful for the Xbox app, at least it gives you more information on content. Just wish we had a voice search.
