New XBOX ONE app, Love or Hate it?

There are literally TONS of ways to include users in betas or at least gain feedback on upcoming changes.

Sorry, but they did this.

Interesting. How’d you get invited? A few of us asked, but I know I didn’t get an invite. Anyway to increase the change of getting an invite in the future?

I did nothing for an invitation. One day I got a Mail which asked me to test the new UI.

I love the new Layout, I WOULD love to use Alexa but for love or money the alexa will not see xbox.

I have had to turn off direct stream / Play to get the client to play a movie without any issues, which is a shame as ive used the xbox one on the older client for about 14months with direct stream turned on.

So i think the app needs a little more work, Possibly get a little more heavy users onboard to test.

I clock many many hours of plex, So more then happy to test

should have kept the previous ui

just made ik access library quicker and have the screensaver

for some bizare reasons the tiles are too big and the ui is clearly displaying wrong size

To everyone, we’re listening to your feedback and gathering data. What I personally would love is for people to give the app a good whack for a week or so and then see how they feel. Saying that we know we can definitely improve a bunch of stuff in the app and we have plans in motion to do so.

Moussa, I’ve done as you requested and here are my findings:
Good - I like everything that’s happening at the bottom tier in regards to shows, individual episodes, additional information, and so forth. I think there have been many improvements in this area.
Bad - I’m still not a fan of the home page and the first few steps of digging in further. I do not like bumping up to get to libraries. This feels cumbersome, and I miss having the list (by selected server) on the left navigation. I find bouncing back and forth between libraries cumbersome at best and I can’t seem to quickly find the right library I’m looking for when my friends server libraries are included in the mix. I also am not a fan of top to bottom scrolling and preferred the original on deck, recently released, and other grouped categories that scrolled left to right.
Overall, the original interface seemed cleaner and more intuitive. Perhaps some of this can be attributed to being familiar with what I know, as the new interface is a radical departure.
I appreciate the attempt at removing clicks, but I think that sacrificed organization to implement. I want my libraries front and center. My libraries, not mixed with everyone else’s.

Sucks to be forced into a update that breaks most of the important functionality that i use.

I dont post often but my wife and kids really hate the new layout. Is there simple a way to allow users to choose what ui layout they want?

I really do not like the new UI + I am getting disconnected from my Media Server every few minutes. I tried numerous work around. Nothing worked.

Not good considering that I pay money for this.

I much prefer the old interface. It feels like an extra step to find my media. While I appreciate all the hard work the choice of layouts would be appreciated

Thanka

i hate the new UI, I preferred the old because it was clearer, easier to flow and switch between categories. It would be nice to put again menu on the left, maybe as an hamburger menu

@Moussa

I think I’ve finally settled on what I need to survive in this new UI world… I would like to bump left to see a vertical list of ungrouped libraries as selected by server. A full list of what I set up myself in the order I dictate/alphabetical, not auto or most used. There’s lots of mention of muscle memory in comments, and I have to agree. The quickest ways for me to get around are those that I remember, not what tries to self organize for me.

I can work around the rest of the navigation, but I still prefer the old school ways of getting around. It’s the library organization that needs the most work.

If you’re looking to get the most bang for your development buck in getting the UI right, you’ll address libraries first. That’s the first foot we all put through the door.

Can’t you do that by clicking the libraries up top? When I select the library up top it just opens an alphabetical list of everything in that library.

Well… They’re there… but they’re listed by last accessed and horizontal scroll, grouped by type. Pretty much everything I cited against.

EDIT: Who lists things horizontally?!?

Plex grocery list:
apples, asparagus, avocados, bananas, berries, beans, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cucumber, garlic, lettuce, melons, mushrooms, onions, ranges, peppers, pineapple, spinach, Swiss chard, squash, tomato

Typical List:
apples
asparagus
avocados
bananas
berries
beans
broccoli
cabbage
carrots
cucumber
garlic
lettuce
melons
mushrooms
onions
oranges
peppers
pineapple
spinach
Swiss chard
squash
tomato

Wait, let me reorder that horizontal list based on purchase frequency.

tomato, lettuce, apples, asparagus, spinach, onions, garlic, mushrooms, bananas, beans, broccoli, carrots, cucumber, melons, ranges, peppers, berries, pineapple, cabbage, Swiss chard, avocados, squash

Look at all that space to the right of your typical list to put media posters!

I was wondering what to use all the grand space for.
Then I looked at the web UI and thought how intuitive it has always been there done that way.

Actually the new UI is more like:

  • vegetables - drinks - household goods - dairy

Then you have other paper sheets for the details ;D
