Hi all. Sooo many questions and loads of sources for answers I dare say.
I am about to set up a Terramaster 4 bay and with decent sufficient spec. I will install Plex onto this and use it for 3 main reasons.
1-Hold my video library for my and others to use remotely
2-To store all my personal documents and files backed up
3-To watch live tv channels.
As I say, I’m very early stages newbie and welcome any tips and help.
I have a Fire Stick with let’s just say channels on an app can I watch this app on remote devices shared via Plex and if so have the ability to change channels on the app on the fire stick.
If I go with the Plex pass lifetime option, does that mean any user on my Plex can watch anything available via the pass option?
Lastly, in a nutshell, any movie I want to view remotely needs to be downloaded onto my server for me or other account holders and watch by having a device with Plex on it and be logged onto one of my accounts?
Pretty much. That’s what Plex is.
Except that each user should be logged into his/her own account. (except it is a family member of yours, living with you)
Plex can only play content from a Plex server. The Firestick is not a Plex server.
There is a Plex client available as an installable app for the Firestick. But it too can only play content from a Plex server.
In general, Fire* devices are usually the poorest Plex client devices. You get what you pay for. Amazon is using these to promote their own media content. Anything outside of that doesn’t get much effort in terms of player features, compatibility testing, and bug fixing, it appears.
