Hi all,
I am new to plex but like what I have seen so far. I have a popcorn hour, a300 series off the top of my head, and have installed the official app for plex, all that is working. I have an ipad with the plex app installed and all that works as well. However I have a problem in that I want to browse my media on the ipad and then have it play back on the popcornhour. I understand this is possible, however I dont get the cast icon showing on the ipad. If I look on the server there is an icon there which shows the ipad available to cast to but not the popcornhour.
All this is on my local network nothing remote at the moment. As I see no cast icon on the ipad and only see the ipad available to cast to on the server I am assuming that either the popcornhour cannot be cast to due to incompatibility or something isnt configured correctly. I have trawled the net for any info that may help but there seems to be little info about when it comes to plex and the popcornhour.
Can someone please advise whether I should be able to cast to the popcornhour from the ipad. And if so is there something I have missed. I read about GDM being enabled on another post in this forum, not sure if its relevent to this issue but I checked and it is enabled. It was also mentiond about allow remote control being turned on but I cannot find this setting on the plex preferences on the popcornhour app.
Due to being so new to plex I am not sure what other info may help diagnose this, as I have only installed the server and apps this weekend I am assuming that all are the latest versions.
thanks in advance for any help provided. Would love to get this cast issue resolved as am also awaiting delivery of a now tv box purely to install plex onto in one of the bedrooms so am looking to standardise all my media devices to plex.
Thanks in advance again for any help provided.
Just to advise that I now have this working by adding plexnmthelper on the server. Should I have needed to do this though?
For those wanting to send content from a PLEX Server to a popcorn hour. I have created a new app for iOS devices that can do this. It does require the community installer PLONK installed on the popcorn hour. You can check out more about it here http://apps.bworby.com/pp-hour/ and the app is available in the app store. Please check it out if interested and ask any questions here or on the website!
Thanks,
B
Hi, just a bunch of questions:
– Is the video sent directly to the popcorn player (samba/cifs) or is it redirected through the iOS device ? (not the same for the PLEX server in terms of potential transcoding)
– Does it work with the vten ?
Thank you
Sorry it took so long to see you posted a question. You can reach me via the http://apps.bworby.com/ site quicker next time?
anyways, to answer your questions…
The app is playing the file via plonk commands. All the app does is tell plonk what you want to do. it then tells the popcorn hour to play the file at that particular path. So nothing is “redirected through the iOS device” as you asked.
I have only tested on the A-110 and C-200. That being said, if you have a working Plonk version installed and can verify it via browser commands I am sure it will work.
Hi bworby,
bought your app last year, but it does not work with my vten. plonk is up and running via csi…
Are there any news on this?
Thanks in advance
