Newbie question

So I am only a few hours into this Plex.TV thing. I am using my NAS to store my movies, then Plex.tv is my media server/player. It looks like Plex.tv scans my NAS drive and display all movies.

My question is, does Plex.tv get a copy of my movies and moves it to Plex.tv server? If I play movies on local NAS from my TV on Plex.tv, does it just go straight to my NAS in a local LAN or does it go out to internet to get the movies?

The movies are on you NAS only, Plex gets the metadata from online and stores it on your PMS server, The posters etc…

Plex TV is basically used to control access, login information…

And some of us wish Plex didn’t do that either…

VOD that Plex has on Plex TV doesn’t use your server., you don’t even need a server to view that.

I assume you mean the “Plex web app”.

For a NAS owner, you are probably better off using “Plex for Windows/Mac” (Download link below)
or Plex Media Player.
Because they both can play more file formats than a web browser.
