@sixones @pluxology alright, then I am going to cut out the scene and provide it to you.
So I have disabled the refresh rate switching and resolution change and tested again. Its slightly better, but still worse than āreferenceā kodi / plex without dv triggered.
I measured the following offsets where the āreferenceā delay is kodi with the least delay between sound and video:
Plex without refresh rate and resolution change: + 30ms (video is 30ms late compared to kodi)
Plex with refresh rate and resolution change: +80ms (video is 80ms late compared to kodi)
I have uploaded the sample and will send it to you as a message.
,
Failures for me with MI 1, MI 2, MI 5, Top Gun, A Star is Born, Days of Thunder.
Havenāt checked in a while, but after opening my Shield after a long while I saw there was an update. DLed and installed it and the first DV video I played immediately went to HDR10 mode. It was more of the same for me. But I will take a closer look this time and document it.
Sonic the Hedgehog, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Gladiator were the ones I remembered that failed. Although MI4 and MI6 played ok
for anyone still having problems with DV, first is to make sure you have re-ripped with makemkv 1.15, ideally with 1.15.3 as it has some DV fixes from previous versions.
Unless you yourself have ripped from the disk directly with a new enough makemkv, then there is no guarantee that whatever file you are using will ever play back dv correctly.
All my rips were made with 1.15.3. Iām well aware of what the different version do and which is the minimum needed.
not everyone does though
Hi, Spectre is a DTS-HD MA track and it may be the combination of that and the Dolby Vision AND your AVR/TV that are producing a problem, can you try to force DTS core, or mux in another audio track and see if the synch problem is still there? Or go direct to your TV
I will try Spectre on my set up over the weekend also.
I seem to have more problems with Dolby TrueHD and DV⦠#confused!
I reanlysed my library earlier today and I am going to retest the offending films and see if that makes a difference.
I have a feeling that Plex isnāt analysing 4K films properly when they are first added to a library.
You can test this by ading a 4k rip to your library and then switching on the HDR filter and the new rip wonāt be listed, until you reanalyse that particular file.
Well that could be the same issue that is affecting DV playback intermittently, perhaps.
A couple of folks over on AVSForum have reported that DV starts playing back following a reanalyse.
Hi,
I tried going directly to my TV that doesnāt support DTS at all and it had the same problem playing in stereo.
Only thing I didnāt test was with the audio coming from the TV instead of ARC.
What I find suspicious is that the audio delay doubles with refresh rate switching on.
When I disable it, it gets better like 80ms (as measured).
Also in the exoplayer from makemkv forums there is no frame rate switching, and the delay is also not as much as with it in Plex app.
I also have this huge video delay with knives out, that has TrueHD Atmos.
Disabling RRS makes it whatchable, so does playing it in modified exoplayer. It still is more delay than HDR playback on Kodi.
Btw. I tried to calibrate the global delay settings of my avr that most of the apps on the shield are in sync.
What I noticed is that Kodi is always āthe fastestā in video output compared to other apps. Other apps being Netflix and Plex that I measured with test patterns (SDR, HDR, 24p) I had rrs on for Plex and Kodi for measuring.
I also do get them, but pretty rarely.
That doesnāt mean that they arenāt happening for others.
I donāt reanalyse every day just after I had a new 4K rip.
I know that but it doesnāt always work properly. There might be a bug. What are you missing here? Just because you donāt experience an issue doesnāt mean that is not real. Seriously, go and annoy someone else.
Just here to add my experience so far. Iām pretty new to this all, literally just started ripping 4 days ago (thanks to a drive purchased from the makemkv forums, thanks Alex).
Iām on Shield 8.2.1, Plex 8.9.2.21619 and Sony X950H. I have the following in DV so far: Knives Out, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Mamma Mia 2, Apocalypse Now (my large makemkv rips) and a Mandalorian S2 episode. Iāve noticed that whenever I play the DV movies, if I see that it took like just over 1.5ish secs to load then I know that DV will not trigger. However if the movie loads up pretty fast (under 1.5ish secs), DV will trigger, like when I reopen the previously opened movie that didnāt trigger DV, it always loads up fast and DV will always load up.
Anywho, so my MAIN POINT is that, as The Mandalorian episode is a MUCH smaller file and always load up very fast, Iāve tried multiple times and multiple ways (resuming into random timestamps) and have not had a single issue with DV triggering with this file.
Iām guessing the Mandalorian is a WEB-DL so will be Profile 5 with no EL and a fairly low bitrate, this cannot be compared to a Profile 7 dual layer remux with a lot higher bitrate.
Your guess is right, it is a WEB-DL.
Iām brand spanking new to all of this and just thought Iād add my experience so far, in case it may help. I really feel lucky to have been able to get in to this at such a great time with all this DV (and TrueHD Atmos) capability.
Can anyone here tell me whether what Iām getting now is actually the same quality as what Iād see if I were playing the UHD traditionally with a player that had DV and Atmos? Like this almost seems too perfect to be able to stream my full quality blurays without a player?
Hi, so I tried Spectre, you are rights, it stutters and goes out if synch and even crashed, the problem is the forced subtitle.
If you deselect before playback it is fine,as soon as you enable it the problems start again.
Do you require a sample?
Hardware: Shield 2019 Tube (8.2.1), Plex for Android (latest public), LG 55UH7700
I donāt know if this helps any troubleshooting efforts, but I found something weird today and thought Iād share just in case. Multiple people in this and other threads have mentioned that The Matrix Trilogy are especially finicky and I would agree, however I did notice something interesting: if I select either of the built-in AC3 tracks (unfortunately they are commentary only, there isnāt a downmixed AC3 version of the regular audio included), Dolby Vision kicks in every time, however if I select the TRUEHD 7.1 tracks, Dolby Vision never kicks in, no matter how many times I try to restart the playback.
I donāt have a 7.1 system (or even 5.1) so in theory I could just downmix/remux AC3 tracks into every single one of my rips, but that is incredibly time consuming and Iām hoping for a solution that just āworksā.
If you need logs, please let me know and Iāll provide them.
