Hi,

is that on all media that has forced subtitles?
Thanks for checking!

Would love this feature also just makes life that little bit easier to bear with

I thought of another solution to this: Maybe you could implement a manual ā€œadvanced settings/whitelistā€ section, where technically proficient users can manually define which DV enabled refresh rates/resolutions their setup supports (in my case, i would tick all 1080p variants, 4k23, 4k24, 4k25, 4k29 & 4k30). Like the way the resolution/refresh rate whitelist works in Kodi?

Hi,

I like this idea and I did suggest it months ago but it was dismissed…

I watched LOTR 1st part on my shield pro. For some reason, I got dolby vision logo popup on my TV (CX) multiple times throughout the movie. I tried restarting plex app, but it still happened. Any solution? This is the first time I experienced this. FYI I run the server on my laptop and direct play them on the shield.

I haven’t had much time to watch movies of late and see that this topic has grown considerably.

I’ve noticed that resuming a Dolby Vision title (I get the Dolby Vision flag on my LG B8) is producing a black screen… occasionally with audio only on my Shield Pro, for a time pressing any buttons on the remote would do absolutely nothing and I’d have to forcibly reboot the Shield by removing the power and then once rebooted attempting to resume again would do the same thing.

However, if I did a ā€˜play from start’ instead it would would consistently work and I could skip to where I left off.

Just recently when resuming the Dolby Vision and getting a black screen with audio only pressing buttons on the Shield remote brought up the play controls but the progress bar and pause button on screen would be purple and now I could exit the player. Resuming would cause the same but play from start would still work.

I didn’t recall it being like this before so sideloaded a few versions previous to the latest and got the same result on all.

Of course, I still get the issue where occasionally it will play as HDR instead of Dolby Vision and on those occasions it resumes and plays fine.

I run the Shield Pro through the HDMI input on my LG SL9YG soundbar to the HDMI Arc on my LG B8 OLED if that makes a difference in order to use the ā€˜Atmos/DTS:X’ decoder in the bar.

I am getting the same black screen from every device I try playing back my DV MKV rips. The TV reports DV and the audio is fine but I get a black screen.

I was on version 1.21.1.3830 then I rolled it back to a version two days old. And had the same issue. So then I rolled it back to version 1.21.0.3711. And I am still getting a black screen on every DV title.

Prior to a few days ago I had no problem playing back my DV MKV rips in DV. I don’t know exactly when it happened since it had been a few days since I played a DV rip. Prior to this issue DV playback had been almost flawless from my 2019 Shield TV Pros.

Hmm… That was weird. I just updated the Plex server. And went from version 1.21.0.3711 directly to version 1.21.1.3830. And now it’s working properly with DV playback. So maybe the version in between those two is what started causing the issue?

Same problem is happening on my side.

In version 1.21.1.3830 getting the same black screen with DV mkv movies (sound works though).

Please Plex team, fix this issue as otherwise we cannot reproduce any DV tittle.

PLEX Server Win 10 v.1.21.1.3830
PLEX Client NVidia Shield Pro 2019 v. 8.11.0.22186 (a1b8a7fb)
Vizio PX75-G1 (& PX65-G1) 2019

I am not experiencing any black screen issues. The only issue I continue to have is failure of the decoding for DV and falling back to HDR10.

For my 2016 LG I had to set Shield Pro to 4k @ 23.976Hz / DV & HDR10 Ready for Plex to output anything in DV. I also had to turn off framerate switching in Plex. Though your TV is more recent and possibly supports DV @60Hz, try it once to see if it helps.

Having the same issue here on Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 on the latest Plex app (v8.11).
Trying to play a file with Dolby Vision and EAC-3 audio gives me a black screen with sound.
Switching to any other audio track (e.g. commentary) makes the video work and using an older Plex app version makes the whole thing work (except for Dolby Vision which is detected as HDR instead since I’m assuming the old app doesn’t support DV).

@DaveBinM & Plex employees, feel free to contact me if you need more information like logs or media file info.

Its Plex
It’s the holiday season.
It’s Plex on Android TV.
Update and break it just before for the holidays.

Oh and its not limited to DV… Any( 5 out of five so far) HDR Web-DL with EAC-3 will also do the trick.

As a side note… What exactly is the point of implementation of the actor’s thumbs? Nice, they are there a year or two after other clients… But why… IF THEY DO NOTHING?

Respectfully it would massively help if those who are having issues with DV playback also list their TV and audio setup as these are key parts of the chain and as has been mentioned can affect whether or not DV works or not.

I’m currently running the latest Plex beta on the Shield 2019 pro via a Yamaha RX-AV695 avr and a Phillips 55OLED754 tv with no issues playing back DV content

Do you have anything with with HDR/DV and EAC-3? They are usually WED-DL’s?
Anyway I do agree with you. So in my case a…
Shield with an LG TV connected to a Denon AVR
Shield with an LG TV connected to a Yamaha AVR
Shield with a Sony TV connected to a Yamaha AVR.

In each case replace the Shield with the ATV 4K and no issues whatsoever.
But I suspect the relevance is the EAC-3 audio rather than anything to do with DV.
Its just that most of the DV encodes are EAC-3. Though it doesnt explain the issues with regular HDR10

Shield 2019 Pro --> Anthem AVM 60 --> LG 55UH770T.

Endless DV playback issues:

  • from full audio with no picture;

  • to everything working;

  • via transcoded audio with HDR.

The everything working option doesn’t happen very often!

Ha ha, sorry just to clarify my comment wasn’t directed at you. I was just reading through the thread and it dawned on me that there could be a number of issues at play for different folks. Specifying the entire chain helps to dig down to the real issues.

As to your question, I’m not entirely sure if and how much of my content has only EAC-3 audio. Most of my content is remuxes so most likely not. Are there any samples floating around? I’m more than happy to test and potentially add to the list of people having issues if it helps get it resolved quicker?

As was always mine until i transition more to local storage friendly sizes again.

But I still feel the issue is with EAC-3 rather than a DV issue. My DV remuxes with DTS or ATMOS in the cloud still play fine.

Passthrough with regular HDR is broken, but disabling it works.
With Dolby Vision, it’s broken for any EAC3 audio.
