I was just going to ask if it showed this info, since I haven’t joined the beta program yet and was curious. +1, I’d absolutely love to see which of my films are “just” HDR vs which have dolby vision support indicated on the titles details screen.
Is it likely that in a future Plex release we get the ability to select the HDR layer that’s played? So if a file has DV/HDR10/HDR10+, the user would have the option to select which to playback?
I would like to add to this if it is possible in the library to show if the movie or show is in HDR/Dolby Vision. Right now when viewing the library it only shows UHD4k
Of course, such log files are also helpful, otherwise he would not have asked you for them. I will also create some “without problems” at the weekend. So sixones can compare it well.
Every small contribution can be helpful and benefits us community.
I once opened an inquiry a year ago. Unfortunately there was little interest.
In addition, this applies not only to DV but also to many other formats. EAC3 with Atmos, TrueHD with Atmos, DTS:X, HDR10 + and others…
I would be happy if you at least have a distinction. I can understand if there are problems with the copyright or the use of the names. BUT you can also rewrite that.
EAC3 7.1 with Metadata
TrueHD 7.1 with Metadata
DTS-HD 7.1 with Metadata
4K HEVC Main10 HDR / DoVi
4K HEVC Main10 HDR and Metadata
and more… a distinction would be nice
I think previously we haven’t had Dolby Vision support so showing that information hasn’t been a priority, however we’ve decided that this would be helpful and are looking into adding it to the preplays as a label so its possible to see the HDR information before playback begins. Sadly don’t have an ETA on this yet.
As for selecting what gets played, I can’t really say if this is something that will be supported.
However it should be automatic depending on your device and the display, if you play a file with Dolby Vision it should play as Dolby Vision if your device and display are capable and then fallback to HDR if that’s not possible.
I’ve not yet seen a file that has Dolby Vision and HDR10, so I’m not sure on this transition. If you could share a sample we can a take a look, ideally though this file would play as Dolby Vision if supported, then HDR10 if not, then standard HDR if neither are possible.
Sorry I was referring to HDR10+ (its available on bluray with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision but I’ve not seen a converted MP4 or MKV with this). My message was confusing, HDR10 should of been HDR10+ and HDR should of been HDR10!
One thing that is driving me mad is that I am loving the Dolby Vision support on my NVIDIA shield with the latest beta, but most of my content is in DTS format. I have a SONOS ARC and it does not support DTS. Unfortunately Plex is not detecting that and transcoding the DTS format into AC3. I believe this is a known bug. Is there any way we can get this sorted ASAP as its a significant constraint on the Dolby Vision support - I can only listen in stereo :(.
There are use cases where I can see this being beneficial. For example, if you have a title that offers a poor implementation of Dolby Vision and the HDR10 layer is better, then you are forced to watch the DV layer unless you do something like turn off the DV setting on your TV which would be a pain. Also, some may want to easily switch between both layers for testing/demonstration purposes so this would be another great benefit.
I’m sure there are others, but these are the first ones I’ve considered.
I’ve tested a good bunch (more than 20) of movies in MKV DV and there is only one, ‘Quatun of Solace’ that appears with a strange pink color replacing the whites. Can someone confirm me that? I’m using the latest Plex beta and MakeMKV 1.15.3
Are people using the shield not able to notice the wrong colours? White not being white, red push (red blobs all over the place, skin being much redder than it should) etc
I don’t know if plex would have any better luck helping nvidia fix the issue.
Would you be able to grab the client logs for me and I will take a look.
Though it sounds like we can’t play DTS on your setup so we have no choice but to transcode to AC3, not sure what the bug would be as we have no way to force your soundbar to support DTS.
Sorry, to be clear, I am saying that plex is NOT transcoding from DTS to AC3 when I expect it should do so as my system should be telling plex that I cannot support DTS. Instead, its plays PCM stereo 2.0. I don’t want plex to that, instead I want plex to transcode the DTS audio to AC3. It’s not happening and I understand that its a known bug. Happy to provide you with my logs if needed.
