Newest version of Plex Media Player broke something on 23.976fps playback

No. I’ve not upgraded to the newest version though.

I am presuming that todays new version 2.29 does not fix this, as not mentioned in the changelog?

You are not alone! Me2

Does anyone know the latest version where PMP did not have audio sync issues ?

Hi. It is somewhere around version 2.8 that sync mode: display broke. Behaviour is different across the 6 windows machines that I use PMP on, so it is hardware dependent. If you can use OpenGL, that seems to work better. If you have to use Angle, I have had some success in copying the angle files from the old working version into the most recent version libEGL.dll and libGLESv2.dll.

They didn’t write anything about it but this version (latest) audio sync works 100%

Plex Media Player v2.30.1 is now available to all macOS and Windows users.

FIXED :

  • Fixed dashboard not loading when one or more Online Media Sources is disabled

CORRECTION! audio went out of sync after about 40 minutes :sleepy:

Hi, I am just trying version 2.30 now. Rather than wait for audio sync to drift there is a quicker way to see if it is broken or not.

Steps to reproduce…

Settings - Main - Native OpenGL - unticked (and restart PMP)

Settings - Video - Allow Display Mode Switching - ticked
Settings - Video - Sync Mode - Display - drop / duplicate audio

Presuming that the desktop refresh rate is 50hz or 60hz, start playing back a video with a 23.976 frame rate.

It plays back very very jerky, and if you press i to get the overlay stats under performance the mistimed frames number is climbing and display sync is not stable.

You can fix the audio sync issue by following this. I think this should be default, dunno why its not. Someone commented that not all ppl notice the lag. Well then, they wouldn’t notice that the audio wasn’t lagging either if this was the default :joy:

            "audio_delay.24hz": 175,
            "audio_delay.normal": 175,

This is a different issue. That setting is to get a constant delay when the frame rate switches, but does not solve the audio and video slipping out of sync as the video progresses.

Allow display mode switching and the “audio_delay.24hz”: 175, fixed my audio sync issues. I watched a couple of TV episode yesterday without any problems. I also had the audio and video come out of sync problem in this latest version prior to the config modification.

Just try it and see. I’m not saying there isn’t a underlying problem. Just saying this might be a workaround.

I do use those settings on all 6 PMP machines that I run. That does correct the audio video sync when the video starts playing, but it does not keep it in sync throughout the whole video.

Why have you changed the Sync Mode from Audio? I used to have issues in previous PMPs but audio has been fine for ages now

I get audio / video clock sync drift with sync mode audio.

There is a good explanation here of how the different options work:

The latest update fixed my issue. Any luck with yours?

Hi , just tried it out now, no, unfortunately the same issues remain. With OpenGL switched off and sync mode: display, the playback on 23.976 video is jerky. :frowning:

I’ve got the same issues, it’s so frustrating. If I pause payback it goes back in sync but that’s hardly ideal

I have this same exact problem it is so frustrating!! Audio drift sucks!

My work arounds;

  1. If I download the film it stays in sync (90% sure)

  2. Playback audio via a bluetooth device, or pass through bluetooth. (100%) (I then have audio delay of 0.05’ish ms, which is easy to adjust for.)

potential work around 3, figure out the % value that the audio goes out of sync and then slow down the video by that much. (MPV allows for this)

EDIT:
My issue has been solved.

It was due to HWINFO64 sensor monitoring.

It’s been a while, nearly a year! According to github we are still waiting for ‘next qt’ any updates from my Plex friends?

@RuleZero PMP EOL has been announced.

Well, what a nice suprise. I had given up on PMP for a while and moved to Kodi, but just tried out the latest version of PMP, version 2.43.0 and it seems to be working perfectly on my main system. Native OpenGL is strangely working, for the first time ever on that system, and with “sync_mode”: “display-vdrop” enabled, I am getting very smooth and in sync playback.

I haven’t tested it properly yet, hopefully there will be no audio pops or audio / video sync drift, fingers crossed :slightly_smiling_face:
