Does that mean that if I scrape all my movies with TinyMediaManager and move them to new hardware, I will still be able to use the data from the NFO files this year?
In other words, will all the data then be available locally in the movie folder?

My media isnât listed on TMDB and plex is taking the information wrong. Can we please get nfo support?
NFO support is actively being worked on, hoping to have the initial implementation in the next release (next year only sorry).
Thank you.
Next year is a very flexible term; it could also be next Christmas. ![]()

Why didnât you add it then? TMDB and theTVDB are both crowd-sourced metadata databases.
So someone can change what you put in there later? I prefer to control my own metadata. I donât enjoy the idea of it being able to be changed (or sometimes vandalized) by any random person. .nfo files give you that level of control.
So others can potentially add additional info, and so other people can benefit from your contribution â much like you benefited from the contributions of a lot of other people providing the metadata for all the other media you have that did match.
Additional info perhaps, but not necessarily info I need or want. Itâs true that I did scrape some info back in the day from TMDB and TheTVDB, but even that I edited to my needs. The way I do that may not suit others, so I just keep that stored locally. It comes down to a level of control.
Hello, I see it that way too, because various media centers have already implemented this.
The information is already there on tmdb and trakt but plex is unable to scape the details correctly.
Many titles I have are sub versions and if I used the dub title it does not find the content. I donât really want to keep track of dub titles and also original, as plex natively does not have alternative names.
A lot of the time I want to add notes that I want to be customised and donât really want it to be public.
There is a need for nfo, otherwise it would not have been a requested feature.
I also use nfo for Kodi which I want to play locally rather than transcoding or direct play via plex if I am at home.
Please name the titles you canât get to match. My files are a mix of romaji and localized titles, sometimes even shortened due to file path limits, and if I have issues itâs usually due to not having the year listed on the directory and some other show of the same name being picked as the match.
Also, you always have the option of using the {tmdb- or {tvdb- tagging to point to the exact entry of things are not matching right.
Aaannnddd here we are in 2026
Is there an ETA for NFO file support?
This feature is definitely needed. The answer of âadd it to TheTVDBâ or some form of that is problematic. One example is âMGM Cartoonsâ on TheTVDB. The information there is WRONG and INCOMPLETE, but an/the Admin there has LOCKED it for further editing. So, it is impossible to correct what is wrong or add any new information other than artwork. WHY?!!!
Out of curiosity, where would one find the âcorrectâ episode information?
Are you using TVDB (aired) or TVDB (DVD) ordering?
The series entry and seasons are locked, but the episodes themselves are still editable. It looks like the reason was likely people adding cartoons made by MGM but part of other series really in that entry (in other words, treating the âMGM Cartoonsâ entry like a Collection).
If you donât want to deal with TVDBâs staff with your concerns with the content, the TMDB entry for MGM Cartoons is barely started, so you get an almost blank slate to make a correct entry, and TMDB is what Plex really uses as a base anyway.
