How can I get Plex to read all of my NFO file with the new TV Agent?
Previously, I was able to include XBMCNfoTVImporter as an additional agent, which would then read the NFO in. As there is no agent prioritization in the new agents, it seems this is not possible.
+1, recently added a youtube archiver that writes metadata to NFOs since thereâs no tvdb for youtube, and now importing metadata via NFO is impossible with the standard Plex setup. Seems like a pointless regression to a feature that people were using.
I get the 80/20 rule. I do, I truly do.
But when the community is the one doing the last 20%, by developing 3rd party agents, etc. why would you shut them out?
What happens when you change the agent to Personal Media, in the edit library, advanced options??
Not only does it not read my NFO files, it also does not pull any information from any online sources for TV shows that donât have NFO files/that should have their information pulled from TVDB, etc.
Here is what The Office (US) looks like with Personal Media - this one should be matched with TVDB.
The Office (US) - Superfan with Personal Media:
You can see that no show/episode information is pulled for either one - whether it be from the NFO files (Superfan) or from TVDB (normal run.)
@OttoKerner - How can I fix this?
âPersonal Mediaâ means that no metadata are pulled from anywhere, except from embedded meta tags (only from mp4/m4v files).
Unfortunately, you canât.
Plex has no native support for .nfo files (which come from Kodi, btw.)
There is currently no way to expand the capabilities of the new agents â either per plugin or any other way.
Yes, Plex has no native support for NFO files, I realized that and edited my post accordingly. Given that Plex was forked from XBMC and that this plugin has been in existence for SEVEN YEARS, yes, I was mistaken. https://github.com/gboudreau/XBMCnfoTVImporter.bundle
However, there are ways to generate NFO files within Plex (again using 3rd party tools that these new agent changes have completely ruined.) This is useful for exact times like this - when refreshing metadata inexplicably(or undesirably) overwrites with data from the internet.
Is there a drop-dead date for the old agents? It is beyond stupid that there is no form of extensibility or ability to select multiple agents/metadata sources and I will not be using the new ones for my main libraries until I am absolutely forced to.
Are there plans to provide extensibility for the new agents? This is really a big middle finger to the development community & to Plexâs âedge-caseâ users.
The last code which was shared between XBMC and Plex has been in the long-defunct âPlex Home Theaterâ client app.
The Plex server has nothing to do with XBMC.
I donât know, sorry.
My point was that this has been possible almost since the inception of Plex.
3rd party agents have been possible almost since the inception of Plex.
It doesnât seem like either of those things will be possible for much longer, and that sucks.
Not sure why your test did not use the nfo files.
and I donât know if it helps, but I use Sonarr and Radarr to create the nfo files from my media for stuff that Plex would normally get from its Online Sources. (For anything custom you should be able to use your own nfo files.)
I just spun up a new server in docker, with the TV library set to use the Plex Series Scanner and the Movie Library set to use the Plex Movie Scanner both with the agents set to use XBMCnfo TV and Movie agents respectfully and that appears to have worked.
For example This is a season in my TV Library:
I edited the nfo file for episode 1 to change the title to check
Although I admit I am confused as the differences between the various Movie Scanner choices:
Plex Movie Scanner
Plex Video Files
Plex Video Files Scanner
But this is what I see for a Movie using Plex Movie Scanner and the XBMCnfoMoviesImporter agent:
again, title edited in the nfo file to test that is reading them
And I am not (currently) seeing anything about upgrading the Libraries in the âactivity drop downâ
One thing that could be an issue is that you get no images for cast members, but to me thatâs no biggie. (they randomly disappear from Plex Web when using the New agents anyway)
Admittedly the metadata may not be quite as rich as you would get from the New Scanners.
That sets the agent to XBMCnfoTVImporter for all media in that library, exclusively.
I do not generate NFO files for all media, only âcustomâ media where I disagree with TVDB/TMDB, etc. With the way you have that library configured, Plex will not grab metadata from online sources for any other media.
Previously, I was able to configure agents so that TVDB/TMDB were preferred, but I was able to âFix Matchâ and select the XBMCnfoTVImporter agent, which would then read my NFO files, for certain select TV shows. I can no longer do this. âFix Matchâ does not give me the option to choose an additional agent, nor can I choose additional agents/prioritize them in the Agent configuration section of the PMS settings.
If this feature is not fixed, I am afraid I will move away from this technology
MInimal support to .nfo is absolutely necessary to maintain a long term library --not proprietary, locking-in requirements.
Emby and Jellyfin do nfo handling really well
