NHL on Plex??

Hi all,

I have been looking into this and can find articles which speak to “unsupported channel” to watch game center live in plex but I cannot find a link to download that or how to go about enabling that - I run a firetv and there is no game center app for that, would be great if Plex can help with this.

Thanks!

There definitely used to be. Not sure what’s happened to it.

It probably quit working. Some time ago the NHL made some internal changes and many applications quit working and now, I think, anyone wanting to access the NHL api must get prior approval of the NHL.

I do know that PlayOn’s NHL integration still works but they may have the required permission(s). I ahd an NHL sub last year and I was able to record many games through PlayOn and place them in Plex for later viewing. It was convenient but the actual NHL app on my Roku was actually easier and better to use.

Personally I think you are better served using NHL’s app on whatever device you want than trying some third party solution. You have to have a valid subscription to the NHL anyway so, in this case, there really is no advantage.

Thanks but the problem is the NHL does not have any apps for my devices except my cell phone, I have a FireTV, FireTV Stick and an Asus Nexus Player - non of which there is an app for the NHL, I have not signed up yet for a sub this year and last year they blocked so many games I was seriously considering not getting it again, but as the season approaches I changed my mind but only if I can use my current main player (fireTV) I am not going to buy something different just for game center, they black out to many games.

Then any app you get is not going to fix that. The blackouts are driven by the NHL and they do not change if you access their system a different way.

However if you are blacked out by local availability you might want to look into Playstation Vue and see if it has local channels in your area. If it does then you will get the ability to watch them and even the ability to DVR them and there is a Vue app for the fire systems.

Thanks I realize that - there is no local team here in WI but they blackout games when the Wild play sometimes and of course any time a game is on anything NBC, that I get - I suppose I can see how casting from my phone works but that is not ideal but I guess I can try that if there are no other options.
