Xbox One - PLEX - Cant upscale Stereo to 5.1 in movies and Xbox tells reciever that it sends out 5.1

Hello,

My setup is the following:
XBOX One - [HDMI] - Reciever (Yamaha RX-V775) - [HDMI] PROJECTOR. I have set up Xbox one to send sound 5.1 uncompressed.

When using Xbox One PLEX to watch movies that has 5.1-sound encoded it works perfectly. However, when i watch movies with AAC Stereo sound, PLEX/Xbox will not upscale it to 5.1 but as I understand it, Xbox will still send 5.1-signals to the reciever (but only with stereo-information) which causes the reciever to interpret the data as full 5.1 but only the stereo speakers will produce sound while the others are quiet. As the reciever interprets it as it recieves full 5.1-data it is not possible to use Dolby Logic Pro etc. on the reciever to improve the sound.

The only alternative as I see it now, is that I must manually enter Xbox One settings and change the sound output from 5.1 uncompressed to stereo every time I watch a movie with Stereo-audio only in order for the reciever to be able to correctly upscale the sound?

This is a very arguous task which is not viable and In that case I rather use Plex on a Chromecast for instance, but I would like to use the Xbox as a my full media solution.

Does anyone have any ideas to solve this without having to manually change the sound-settings in Xbox everytime I am to watch a movie? (And I dont want to leave it at Stereo as many of my movies has 5.1 which is better than an upscaled stereoversion).

Thankful for input and recommendations!

I have run into the same issue, and this is unfortunately an issue with the xbox itself and how it handles the audio and not plex. When you select the 5.1 audio (whether it be bitstream dts or dd or the 5.1 pcm) the xbox is reencoding the audio. This means even when you watch a movie with dolby digital it will be reencoded by the xbox before going out to your reciever. This is so the xbox can add in anything that is happening via the interface or snap. There have been quite a few thread on both the [Feedback](http://feedback.xbox.com) and [Forums](http://forums.xbox.com) for xbox that they need to change how this works. Hopefully they are working on a fix, go to the above, find the relavant thread, and add your voice and support for this as it is kind of a big issue.

I think plex is kind of hampered by this as they have their hands tied waiting for xbox to do something.

Note: you are doing the same thing I've been doing. Switching back and forth in the settings. I have passthrough enabled on my AVR so if it's in AAC 2.0 I just turn the AVR off and watch on the TV. The xbox seems to be smart enough to flip between stereo for just the tv and 5.1 for the AVR without having to go to the settings menu.
