No access to plex.tv on restricted network

I was recently traveling and was on a network that restricted access to video sites. Plex.tv was one of their blocked sites.

I had no desire to watch video. In fact the network was so slow, I couldn’t if I wanted to. Unfortunately, by blocking plex.tv I had no access to my server, which meant I couldn’t get to pictures, either (which would have been allowed on the restricted site). I also had no access to the Plex forums, so I couldn’t come here and look for a work around.

Has anyone else here experienced this and is there a way around it?

Thanks!

Try using a VPN to connect? There are quite a few free Ines or trials. If you where traveling is it safe to assume you where using a mobile device? If you are on Android try :

ttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedify.speedifyandroid

The app offers channel bonding to thier VPN (allows you to use wifi and your cell phone connection) in theory to increase speed.

They offer a free gig a month to try out.

I will check that app out and see, if it works for me, the next time I travel.

FYI: I had both an Android phone and a PC. I was trying to upload pictures to Plex, but couldn’t get connected. I ended up finding a network that had full access and connected my phone and then didn’t shut down the app or the phone. I was then able to access Plex, once I was back on the restricted network. I assume this is because once the authentication is complete, the client was talking directly to my server.

I will be traveling again in a few months, so fingers crossed.

Thanks for the input.

*I forgot to add, I didn’t try a VPN and I believe the network I was on didn’t allow them, but it’s definitely worth a shot, next time.
