No Apps On Same Network Can Access My Plex Server

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#: 6.4.10.7174

I’m sure this is router related, but no idea what to do about it. Ever since getting a new internet provider (which provided a new router), I am unable to access my Plex server on the same network. Hell, I can’t access it from outside of the local network, but baby steps… Every time I try to search for solutions, they only refer to issues dealing with remote access, I’d like to solve local access!

The router is a Zyxel EMG3425. I doubt this is a double nat issue because the “modem” for this gigabit fiber is just a tiny Nokia box attached to the wall with no login or other info listed on it.

I’ve tried reinstalling Plex also, to no avail. Note, reinstalling seemed to retain my settings, so I don’t know if a clean reinstall is in order, nor how to accomplish it anyway.

The Plex server IS accessible from the computer that it is running off of, just not any other on the same network.

Are you using a fixed IP address on your plex server? What IP address is it? What IP address range is your new router configured with?

Make sure that
Settings - Server - Network - ‘Secure Connections’ is not set to ‘Always’.
(I recommend ‘Preferred’)

If the client actually has the setting, allow it to fall back to an unsecure connection, when “in the same network as the server”.

Then check your router for settings related to ‘DNS rebinding protection’
create an exception for the domain plex.direct

I do not have a fixed IP address on the server… At least I don’t think I do.
I set DHCP to start at 192.168.1.10 and have a pool size of 50. (I don’t see a way to assign a “maximum” IP address). Also, I assigned my desktop that has the server to be static at 192.168.1.50.
This was the address I was using when I had the previous router, so I figured if there are still some settings hidden in Plex that were aiming towards that IP it would still work.

OttoKerner: I have it set to Disabled, and have also tried it on Preferred.

I searched all over the router and cannot find anything regarding DNS rebinding protection.

That’s unfortunate. Is your ISP xfinity by chance? Xfinity XFi Security and impact on availability of Remote Access

Negative. It’s called Metronet. It’s a small fiber company.

I actually had Xfinity before this and everything was fine. I doubt that sentence has been typed before.

If they’re small, call them up and ask them about the router config. Could you use a router of your own? If so, there might be a chance to use an alternative firmware like dd-wrt, Tomato etc. – which then will have the necessary setting.

Shane_peterson_co, I am having the same issue as you. Left big cable, Xfinity, and moved to a small fiber company, Gonetspeed.
Ever since the switch, I am not able to securely and Directly connect to my Plex server. But unlike you, I am able to connect to my Plex server Internally from other clients.

I need to speak with my ISP and inquire on a solution.

I’m curious if you ever figured out a solution to this issue.

Like you, Gonetspeed provided me with a Nokia ONT box, but I had to provide my own Wireless Router. I’m using a Netgear Orbi in this scenario.

Sorry Stephman, but no, I never was able to solve this problem. Being that you can connect to your server internally, you’re in a better position than I am.

Shane, talk with your Fiber provider regarding a static IP address. Once I received 1 from my fiber provider, I was able to access my server remotely.

My thread.

As for your internal server access issue, might need more info from you to better troubleshoot the issue
