No artwork showing; all tracks have embedded artwork on WD MyCloud

Hi: I have one artwork embedded in each track, no images in folders. All tracks are in one directory on MyCloud. All tracks get into Plex, no problem. But not one track has the artwork.

I have basic, not premium. I created the music library where I checked “use embedded tags” and used “personal media artists” for Agent.

I also set Agents as follows:

  • Artists > Personal Media Artists: “Local Media Assets (Artists)” checked and on top line followed by “Personal Media Artists”
  • (although I don’t have premium) Artists > Plex Premium Music: “Local Media Assets (Artists)” checked and on top line followed by “Personal Media Artists” and “Plex Premium Music Settings” as follows:
    – Gracenote genre level: None
    – All three check boxes unchecked
  • Artists > Last.fm: “Local Media Assets (Artists)” checked and on top line followed by “Last.fm” (with all its check boxes in settings unchecked) followed by “Fanart.tv” unchecked and last is “Home Theater Backdrops” also unchecked
  • Albums set exactly like Artist but with “LyricFind” last and unchecked.

Any idea why the artwork embedded in each track is not being imported and displayed in Plex?

THANK YOU!

Hello. Anyone else having similar issue or got suggestions? Or I am the only one with this problem…

Appreciate any help! Thanks.

Hello. I wonder if this forum is active or attended by any Plex expert as I’m still waiting for assistance but no replies for several days now…

Came here looking for an answer. Exact same issue.

GREAT news to report!!

After over 16 hours of processing (even though Plex said “no server activity”, it seems it was still processing), I can now see the ARTWORK on all albums. I do not see any artwork when viewing by Artists. Maybe because Plex expects a different Artwork for Artists and does not use the embedded track Artwork for that.

This worked for 5000 tracks that I tried. Now I will try my entire library of over 40K tracks. Plex probably needs several days to process but I’ll see what happens. Looks promising!

Here is what I did as FYI to all.

Each and every track has the following embedded tags:

  • Artist
  • Album
  • Albumartist
  • Track
  • Title
  • Genre
  • Year
  • Artwork

The file format is: Artist - Album - Track - Title.mp3, all in ONE directory (Music folder on MyCloud)

CONFIGURATION/SETUP:

  1. Uninstall Plex
  • Verify that all Plex folders in Programs & Users are deleted
  1. Restart PC

  2. Run CCleaner and Wise

  3. Install Plex

  • Name it
  • Delete the two default libraries (music and photos)
  1. Before creating a music library, go to Settings/Agents and do this for Artists:
  • Personal Media Artists
    – Local Media Assets (Artists) checked and on top
    – Personal Media Artists checked and second

  • Plex Premium Music (although I’m not using it)
    – Local Media Assets (Artists) checked and on top
    – Plex Premium Music checked and second and with advanced settings:
    — Gracenote: None
    — The three items below unchecked

  • last.fm
    – Local Media Assets (Artists) checked and on top
    – last.fm checked and second and with advanced settings:
    — The three items unchecked
    Fanart.tv unchecked and third
    – Home Theater Backdrops unchecked and last

  1. For Albums in Settings/Agents:
  • Personal Media Albums
    – Local Media Assets (Albums) checked and on top
    – Personal Media Albums checked and second

  • Plex Premium Music (although I’m not using it)
    – Local Media Assets (Albums) checked and on top
    – Plex Premium Music checked and second and with advanced settings:
    — Gracenote: None
    — The three items below unchecked
    – LyricFind unchecked and last

  • last.fm
    – Local Media Assets (Albums) checked and on top
    – last.fm checked and second and with advanced settings:
    — The three items unchecked
    Fanart.tv unchecked and third
    – LyricFind unchecked and last

  1. Create a Music library and with advanced settings:
  • Check Import from iTunes
  • Check Include in dashboard
  • Album sorting Library default
  • Check Use embedded tags
  • Check Store track progress
  • With Agent last.fm selected (by default), the three items below it should be unchecked
  • Now change Agent to Personal Media Artists

I’ll report back when I have an update as soon as Plex finishes processing all my tracks…

PLEX ROCKS!! Thank you Plex Team!!

No, I did not forget to post an update… 9 days on, 24x7, and Plex is still processing my 40K+ music tracks!!!

I’ll update as soon as it is done.

After FOUR WEEKS of 24/7 processing, PLEX was UNABLE to import all of my artwork that is embedded in each track for my 40K+ tracks.

I would say PLEX has imported no more than 20% of the artwork, and that’s probably even generous to say. Clearly, there is something wrong as users cannot be expected to wait FOUR WEEKS for the scan to get the artwork and only get 20% of it.

THAT IS VERY FRUSTRATING!!

Can someone at PLEX please say something about this. For one month since my initial post, no one from PLEX has volunteered any input or suggestion.

Is anyone listening out there?

Thank you very much.

Same problem here with my new My Cloud Home.

Only added a few albums so far, copied from my old WD My Book Live.

All MP3 files have embedded artwork, all files show embedded album art in Windows Media Player, Windows File Explorer, Media Monkey and on the Marantz IPad app BUT NOT IN PLEX !

Given the number of complaints on this forum and elsewhere you would think that someone at Plex would do something to fix the problem.

I posted a similar topic recently and received no replies from the Plex people except for a link to an unrelated topic in the FAQs that was not relevant to my questions. Not sure why the Plex people won’t address this issue.

Just adding my reply that I have the exact same issue! I was impressed with the performance of the movie database as it pulled artwork for movies I never expected it to. I have been ready to purchase a lifetime plex pass, but I cannot justify it if my music library will not display with artwork.
Overall, very happy with our nvidia shield we got ourselves for Christmas and would really like to make this our personal streaming server with plex, but we need to get this resolved!

I hate that my first post is a bit ranty but I’ve been suffering this same issue from day one. I can tell you that, in my case, it has nothing to do with tagging My belief is that there is something wrong w the way it writes the information to the drive. I’ve tried every configuration suggested and no change. Why is this topic so often uresponded and unaddressed when it is quite common? I dunno if this is on the plex side of things or the WD side. FWIW I’ve used plex for a long while and was/is a fan. I think it’s a great platform but the WD home server version causes me grief. Thanks.

Not sure where the problem is, Plex or WD… but, here is what I have been doing so far (for weeks and weeks!) after auto scan/rebuild/etc. does its thing leaving MANY songs with no artwork

  • manually update the tags for each album
  • if failed, change the artwork
  • if failed, delete/replace track/album

Frustrating and slow process but shugging through it to make sure I have a well-curated library.

Thanks. Autoscan and rebuild has no effect. Yes, I can manually link the poster/ cover artwork. And do so as periodically but I’d still like to know WHY? Or I might

move into another NAS media server configuration. Plex server via laptop and my previous WD NAS played well together. Frustratin’! But thanks.
