Server Version#: Synology DS1019+ (DSM 6.2.2-24922)
Player Version#: 3.95.2
Hello Plex community,
I’m new here (and a total Plex noob) so sorry if I chose the wrong category.
Since I started using Plex i have constant buffering issues when I try to watch a movie with subtitles. I read online that the issue can be that the server is not powerful enough to transcode the file with the subtitles. Since my Synology DS1019+ supports Hardware Transcoding I wonder why the server shouldn’t be powerful enough? Does anyone else with a Synology DS1019+ experience any issues like that.
The files I play are MKV files with PGS subtitles.
The Plex clients I tried are a Samsung KS9090 series, an iPad Pro and an iPhone X.
On the TV the stream is just buffering every minute or so on the iPhone and iPad there appears an error message that the server is not powerful enough to display the movie on this device.
In Plex all the settings are standard. Hardware Transcoding is activated.
I reinstalled Plex multiple times on the DS1019+ and rebooted the device multiple times but the buffering issue is still there.
Has anyone a clue what’s wrong? (Settings, Setup etc.)
can you tell me how much power a processor should have to be able to transcode PGS?
I also searched for .srt subtitles but I cannot find a good source for “Forced subtitles” / “foreign parts only subtitles”. Can you give me any recommendations where to find those?
I already searched through OpenSubtitles.org but I only can find “full subtitles”
Not to contradict Trumpy (which I’m going to do anyway )
You don’t need a lot of Linux skills for a QNAP.
QNAP is more ‘techy’ oriented than Synology but you can get by with just learning the GUI.
I find a good analogy to be Apple GUI (Synology) versus Microsoft GUI (QNAP) but QNAP didn’t go overboard.
Prices are good for what you’re getting, imo.
At the top of the pile is a TVS-1282-i7-32GB. Yes, it’s a big machine.
It wil hold 8x 3.5" HDDs plus 4x 2.5" HDD/SSD, plus 2x M.2 SSDs on the motherboard.
It’s a computer in a box, with 3 HDMI ports, PCI-E slots, 4 USB 3 slots, and 4 Gigabit ports.
When I’m not busy streaming media, I use it for my Plex development.
