Hello I’m new to this forum. I’m running plexmediaserver on my rasberry pi 3 for a long time now. But today i recognised, that i only see online media and no local media any more. If I open the plex web app locally on my server and go to setting I can only see account setting and plex web settings but no server settings any more.
I don’t know where to start the troubleshooting
I hope anyone can help
Best regards
Thomas
thanks for your quick reply. I’ve already tried to log out of plex.tv and go to web app.
After your hint I tried to edit the Preferences.xml according to this support article. But nothing changed.
I shoud see server settings on the local web app even if I’m not logged in to plex.tv or am I wrong?
After log in again to plex.tv its the same. But my server is not appear under apporved devices.
Ah thanks I tought I could use the plex server in my local network without an plex account.
I just remembered some time ago I moved the library to another location. According to an tutorial I’ve set the location of “PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR” to an USB drive, by editing the systemd /etc/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service.d/override.conf.
The server is alway running fine.
But now after loging in to plex.tv the Preferences.xml was not changed, I think this is strange. Perhaps plex could not find the library any more after the server was updated
From the symptoms you describe it looks like the Plex Media Server is linked to a different Plex account… therefore if you’re not signed in or if you’re signed in with a different account, you will not be able to access that content.
Best check if your PMS still has access to that USB drive.
If it cannot find the external drive, Plex could fall back to an earlier version the preferences.xml. If that had been signed in with a different user, you will not be able to access that server’s content.
Moving the server data directory to an external drive is not necessarily a good move.
Yes your right, I’ve red about moving the library coud cause problems, but I’ve always done well with this.
just looked at Plex\ Media\ Server.log
I think the access to the external drive is ok, but I found another warning:
WARN - HTTP error requesting GET http://plex.tv/pms/:/ip (6, Couldn’t resolve host name) (Could not resolve host: plex.tv)
If I look at your explanations I think this could be the issue.
DSN resolution should be okay in general (I can resolve google.com)
But nslookup plex.tv brings up:
** server can’t find plex.tv: SERVFAIL
on the plex server.
On my notebook I can resolve it.
There seems to be an DNS issue on the plex server.
I’m not sure if the DNS issue is the Problem, perhaps its the library location. After a reboot and setting up a second nameserver the warning is still in the log files, and I still cant see the server settings and the server dosen’t appear under approved devices.
I’ve tried to figure out if plex fall back to another Preferences.xlm, but find / -iname “Preferences.xml” only finds the one in my library path and the backup.
I’m offline for today. I will take a look here tomorrow or the next days.
Thanks for your advice so far.
Have a nice evening
Thomas
