No more 3D movies option available from my Plex server

Hello,

I decided to get some 3D movies on my Plex server hosted on a debian vm. Everything was ok and Plex was showing correctly 3D playback options to decide id this is H-SBS. I was using it with Samsung browser inside a Gear VR device.

Recently, I’ve updated my phone android rom and updated to Plex Pass. I’m not sure why I have no more 3D menu. I did not modified how the files is renamed on my Plex folders (like** Assassin’s.Creed.H-SBS.(2016).mp4**).

If you have some more guidelines to help me make it work back ?

Feel free to ask me more details.

Thanks anyway.

Hello, nobody here, any support ?

Thanks.

Daily bumps are going to do nothing.

Provide client log files.

That’s the wrong naming convention to start with.

Hey thanks for your answer. Client log files, you mean Plex app logs ?

Plex itself has no support for 3D whatsoever.
If your client has shown you a “3D menu”, it must have come from the device itself, outside of Plex’s influence.

Hello,

False, it was coming from Plex itself.
From the faq :

Coming with logs later today.

Is not false. One client supports that. One.

That is not Plex.
That is one unofficial Plex client app, developed by one independent developer.

And what is working on some Models of Samsung TVs doesn’t necessary mean that it has to work on an entirely different device as well.

Ok for that topic, wich is not very convenient. But you can’t make me tell the contrary of what I’ve seen :

I did watched 3d movies (with a 3d menu) from plex client (that connect to my PMS) on Samsung VR browser from my Gear VR.

You seem to tell me that’s not possible but I’ve not dreamed it

It was working before my phone re-installation and plex subscription, using the same file name convention …H-SBS…

I just don’t get why it is no longer working.

When media is not named correctly, it can work and then suddenly not work any more. It’s not named correctly, it’s never been named correctly, and the naming rules have always been there so this is nothing new. Fix the files first, do the Plex dance, and once everything is right we can continue to troubleshoot.

While that may be, the support for it did not came from Plex.
It must have come from your device itself, which sensed the 3D content and reacted accordingly.

Hello again,

I re-checked naming convention, looks ok to me :

I re-installed original Android and Gear VR apps (occulus browser, samsung vr browser, samsung phonecast).
I understood that Plex is not the client who gives the h-sbs / … menu, but no changes at the end, no menu comes from any of the above listed apps. And it was working before.

I suppose Plex sends a ‘signal’ when files correctly named to …h-sbs to the player to be able to active a 3d menu.

I did few tests using Samsung Internet Browser inside Gear VR with Youtube 3D SBS Videos or 360°, it works well.

Still do not understand why it do not detect when I play SBS videos in Plex and what’s the process to enable this.

Further help needed, Thanks.

No, it doesn’t do that.

As I said above: Plex has no, zero, zilch support for or awareness of 3D.
All it does is to take the video file and to forward it to the player, either in a transcoded way or unchanged. It is oblivious to whether the video stream contains a 3D picture as a side-by-side or top-bottom.

The naming convention is only valid in Orca’s Plex App for some older Samsung Smarthub TV’s and some Samsung BluRay players.

Thanks again, what I don’t get is why there is a Plex naming convention for 3D movies (finishing by …h-sbs.mp4) if Plex do nothing about 3D after all (as you said, just needed for old samsung SmartHub TVs).

There is no “Plex naming convention for 3D movies”.
This naming convention only exists in the documentation of the above mentioned Smarthub app.
