Sometime back, my movies, TV shows etc, seemed to have hit or miss, no longer show Subtitles. I have Tons of both movie, and TV shows, and I add new ones continually. The strange thing is, that sometimes I’ll add a movie that has the subtitles, and for some reason they show up, but this only works sometimes. And it ONLY works when I add the movie, and subtitles at the same time. I can no longer add subtitles after the fact and EVER get them to show. SRT files are the Vast majority of the subs I use, and I have tried the editor and saved them into the UTF-8 , but this was no help at all. I have gone through the forums and seen a few of the same types of issues, but I haven’t seen any recent posts regarding this. PLEASE tell me there is an easy fix, that doesn’t involve me copying 10 files at a time until I find which file has a problem, the re-copying ALL the hundred and hundreds of movies I have again in order to get them to show. PLEASE Help…
Thanks in Advance…
can think of few reasons …
1- permissions? make sure its same as the plex username! folder/all files (even srt)
2- to be exact name as the video file … example (video00.mp4) and (video0.srt) will not work … make it same 100%
3- use refresh on that folder after the above (will take less than 20s to show)
hope it helps!
When you say the same name as the Plex username, what are you referring to. The Windows permissions…? How do I find that out…? The account I’m using on Windows, has been the same for over 2 years… It has never changed, and the name I logon to the PLEX with has not changed either. How do I verify those…? The SRT and the movie file name are exactly the same, except for the extension.
Thx for the assistance… Please continue…
well, currently i’m using plex on linux … at least make sure the permissions is 777
try with 1 sub & Refresh the folder
Q: Do you mean you are using Windows? in a server through internet or your own PC ?
I have a dedicated PC setup on the internet, and it runs Windows 10 … I have the entire drive setup with permissions for me on the network, which works great for me to transfer files and such, but It doesn’t help with the subtitles being shown.
Example: I just copied a movie, Meet_the_Baron.avi into the movie directory, with the Meet_the_Baron.srt file in the same directory, but only the movie shows up on the Plex. I have put the movie, and the SRT file inside a directory and this changes nothing. The movie still shows, but the subtitle never shows up.
Thx again for the help… Anything else…?
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
‘check’ the line ‘Local Media Assets’
do the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMoviedatabase
and
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Personal Media
SRT files must use the ‘UTF-8’ text encoding for compatibility with all Plex clients.
P.S. if you continue to use file names like Meet_the_Baron.avi
, you will get into serious trouble with mismatches in the longer run. Use good file names and support Plex with identifying your movies.
Thanks so much for the assistance of everyone that took the time to show me the errors of my ways (LOL , so to speak)
All you help was truly appreciated…
